A litte about specifications for those new to the sport

George picked up this car from Jeff Lantz just recently. The body year is one of a 1973. It is built to SCCA ITB specifications. This means that it has a six point roll cage, a stock engine/driveline and lowered suspension. Much of the interior is removed but the front seats, the dash and the door panels remain. There can be no modifications to the stock bodywork with the exception of some extra cooling ducts and a front spoiler. Stock wheel diameters must be used and there is a limit to the rim width. Street tires with a DOT approved tread pattern are required. The four cylinder Capri runs in ITB while a six cylinder Capri is classed as ITA.

Although the rules suggest that the result will be race cars that are slow and heavy, the opposite is true. Many lap times are within a small percentage of the production classes such as GT3,4 or 5. They allow major engine modifications and suspension changes. This shows the emphasis that a tight and twisty track like Waterford Hills places on the development of the suspension. Now, it's been confirmed that the Capri now qualifies for E Production.

We are hoping to hear more from George for this Capri is racing this year!
