This car was a 1973 2600 street car until the SCCA developed a classed called IT (Improved Touring) back in 1985. Darryl Seefeldt in California built this car for the new class, which makes it one of the older IT racer cars around. Phil bought this car from Darryl in 1992, however it didn't arrived in Michigan until 1994.

Phil ran a driver's school in the fall of '94 and then about 5 races in '95 where he usually was one third to one half of the way down in the pack. 1996 racing season was cancelled, however Phil is back in '97 and going strong! Phil has run 6 events with reasonable success. His best finishes have been a couple of seconds, but this was at at a very small event with only a hand full of cars in the event. Near the end of July he placed third out of a pack of 32 cars in Mid-Ohio! :-)

The rules allow for balanced and blueprinted stock engine with stock or a spec carb and headers. Suspension components such as springs, shocks, and bushings can be changed, but most of the original suspension pieces must be kept and used in the original mounting points. Also, a full roll cage and other safety pieces are required.

Initially the main competition came from BMW 2002 tii's and Mazda RX2's and RX3's, and this Capri can run with them. Today's competition comes from CRX Si's and first generation RX7's. The Capri is in there (20+ years later) giving these newer cars a run.

This Capri is easy to maintain. Brakes and tires tend to be the mechanical components that are changed the most. The more time consuming part is keeping up with the body work however.
