Methods and Sources

The lineages I have posted here contain everything in my working files. If I am in doubt about a particular fact or connection, I usually note it in the Notes for that person. Please don't believe anything you see here; check it against primary sources before accepting it. In many cases, I have no idea what evidence the source I got information from based it on. When I have primary source information, it is included in the Notes for the individual.

I began putting together these lineages from a number of secondary sources:

History of the Henry McWhorter Family by Minnie S. McWhorter, Charleston Printing Company, Charleston, West Virginia, 1948

The Harshman-Hashman-Hershman-Hersman Family: A History and Genealogy, a Revised and greatly Amplified Edition of The Harshman Family Published in 1932 by The late Rev. Charles W. Harshman, S.T.B, Ph.D. by Col. C.C. Harshman in collaboration with Mavourneen (Harsman) Harsman, published by the authors, Berkeley, California, 1976.

The Forebears and Descendants of William Taylor and Mahala Cromwell by Carrie Cathern Cart, McClain Printing Company, Parsons, West Virginia, 1980

Unpublished research of Elizabeth deGruyter Turner of Glenville, West Virginia.

If there is no source noted, the information will have come from one of these books or from personal knowledge.

I have added information from Internet sources, mainly
