This map of the ancestors of Ferd and Anna Mary McVaney de Gruyter is a SVG map, generated by a Perl program from a GEDCOM file and the GNIS State Gazetteer files.

If you do not see a map of the United States above, your browser does not have SVG (Scaleable Vector Graphics) support. If you are using Internet Explorer, you can install the free Adobe SVG 3 plugin from here.

If you are using Firefox 1.5 or greater, you may see the map, but will not be able to zoom and drag so you can see detail. To install the Adobe viewer in Firefox:

  1. Download Adobe SVG 6 here.
  2. Copy the files from the Adobe plugin folder (usually C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\SVG Viewer 6.0\Plugins to the Mozilla Firefox plugins folders (probably C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins)
  3. Type about:config in your browser address bar, and put 'svg' in the Filter: box.
  4. Double-click on the svg.enabled line until the value column says "false." (You are disabling the native SVG support, which does not have zoom, so that Firefox will use the Adobe plug-in instead.)

I have not tested these maps with other browsers. I would be interested in hearing from you whether it works or does not in your particular browser.
