In a city noted for architecture, Gaudi's work stands  out.  His many groundbreaking arthitectural ideas spured the Modernista
movement in Spanish architecture and design.  Of all his works, the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia may be his highest acheivement.

Notice the incredible detail in the stonework, and the green tree on the peak of the facade.  When finished in 2026, the central tower will dwarf these towers in height and girth.  Hopefully they will clean it up when it is all finished.

The newer construction is the whitest!  Note the various colored fruit sculptures on the peaks.

One portal of the church is covered with scenes from the life of Christ until the beginning of the ordeal of his death.  The birth of Christ is depicted at the lower center.

Another portal of the church depicts the passion and death of Christ in a morosely stark style.

Inside the Basilica

Stairs leading up one of the towers.

Organ pipes.

Basement where masses are held.

Stained Glass

Niches remain to be filled in with statues.

Support pillars resemble palm trees, in Gaudi's vision.

The Interior

View toward the main altar.

The Ceiling

The four illuminated cartouches representing Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, authors of the gospels, are visible here.
