Only 3500 or so RS 2600s were built, and they were never officially sold in the US. They were intended for the German market. We like to make the claim that ours will be the only operational, street legal RS 2600 in North America. We know of few other RS 2600s that either aren't operational, or aren't street legal.
Our friend Jeff Lantz has owned another road-going RS 2600 since 1991. It's a red and black '71, with no bumpers. It was in desperate need of restoration when he found it. It had been off the road since 1977. He's slowly restoring it up in Canada. Jeff has been an enormous help to us in restoring our RS 2600, providing information, contacts and parts sources.
Capri parts specialist Team Blitz owns a very unusual 1972 RS 2600 that was originally owned by Edsel Ford II. It is the only 100% US emissions legal RS 2600 produced. It has the RS 2600 body, suspension, and interior; but the engine is a standard US spec 2600, complete with all exhaust emission controls. The car has been meticulously restored, and was exhibited in front of Ford's corporate headquarters during Ford's centennial celebration.
Mr. von Walthausen is something of a legend in Capri circles. More myth than reality perhaps? Nevertheless, Clay Dopke provided us a picture of this racing RS 2600 that Mr. von Walthausen had at some point. We don't know if he still has it.
We don't know much about Lynn Harris, except that he supposedly lives in Massachusetts. Clay Dopke provided us these picture of his RS 2600 race car. It sure looks like a racing RS 2600 to us. We don't know if Mr. Harris still has the car.
We know of one other RS 2600 race car in the USA, but the owner does not want his name publicized. The car is an ex- Ford of France Group 2 car, and Jean Vinatier drove it to victory in the 1972 Tour de France. It is currently being restored.
