PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

 

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL & HEALTH SERVICES                                                                                                    1991 to Present

Divisional of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), Everett, Olympia and Tacoma Washington

 

The overall agency’s mission is to assist people with disabilities to prepare for, obtain and retain employment.

 

Information Technology System Specialist 4  (June 2007 to present)

§          Independently support of information systems and users in an assigned area of responsibility, performs consulting, deployment, installation, maintenance, quality assurance, troubleshooting and technical support for applications, hardware, databases, network infrastructure equipment.

§          Manage seven Windows 2003 file/print servers and 90+ Windows XP desktop/laptop machines in eight DVR offices in King County.  Provide support by doing field visits and remote tools such as SMS.  Compare, verify and correct the lists of computers in Active Directory, SMS and ePolicy Orchestrator.

§          Set-up accounts and reset passwords in Active Directory.  Performs full and incremental back-up jobs on regional server by using ARCserve Backup Manager application.

§          Update and maintain clone images and hard drives for different computer setups.  Use Norton’s Ghost and Acronis True Image tools to clone hard drives.

§          Periodically check the network to detect any potential problems areas such as printer, server and computer failures.  Make sure all computers are online and receive the recent antivirus updates McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator console.

§          Uses established work procedures to complete assignments and coordinate projects such as conducting needs assessments, creating installation plans, monitoring operating environments.

§          Consults with higher-level technical staff to resolve complex problems.

§          Identifies documentation needs.  Creates documentation for systems and users.

§          Uses advanced hardware and software diagnostic tools such as network analyzing equipment and operating system diagnostics to identify and either resolve or refer problems to other staff for analysis.

§          Analyzes and corrects network malfunctions.  Assists users in ordering and installing data communication equipment.  Replaces faulty hardware modules in network equipment.

§          Report and maintain inventory in regards to IT equipment.  Surplus out of date or spare IT equipment.

 

Lead Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor  (October 2006 to present)

§          Liaison for Lynwood WorkSource and provided mentoring to Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors and Rehabilitation Technicians to aid them in DVR’s policies and best practices.  Provides guidance to other VRCs to assist their customers in using the WorkSource Center.

§          Provided consultation and technical assistance to assist WorkSource partners in assuring people with disability to access WorkSource services.

§          Participated in WorkSource universal access review and provides technical assistance to implement it’s recommendations.

§          Educated WorkSource partners on disabilities, etiquette and accommodation issues. 

§          In addition, performed duties of vocation rehabilitation counselor as shown below.

Information Technology System Specialist 2 (temporary 9 month assignment, 2002 to 2003)

§           Set up and delivery of one-on-one training to users statewide.  Explained features and functionalities of equipment, systems, and applications.  Worked closely with the Help Desk to determine training needs.  Training provided included:
     - set-up/configuration and use of PDAs (Compaq and Toshiba);
     - basics of MS Office and Outlook,
     - remote access to DVR resources using laptops, portable printers and VPN (Virtual Private Network). 
     - set-up and configuration of VPN Dial-up, VPN tunnel and Intel Netstructure. 

§           Became proficient in using RoboHelp applications.  Assisted in the development of an online DVR manual.  Worked with the STARS development team to improve the Help Menu within the STARS application.

§           Installed hardware items such as PDAs, printers, monitors, keyboards, mouse, NICs and other peripherals.

§           Installed software and drivers. 

§           Traveled to field offices to troubleshoot network and PC/Laptop difficulties for end users.  Replace hard drives, LCD screens and motherboards.  Cloned hard drives and set up desktop configurations.

§           Serve as a consultant on disability related items such as JAWS, Dragon Dictate, Open Book, Video Interpreting and ergonomic devices.

§           Diskeeper installation verification and setup on each laptop and PC Boot time defragment.

§           Removal of Symantec antivirus software and installation of McAfee antivirus software.

§           Review and update network documentation for specific offices.

§           Maintenance on server manager contents.  SMS matches and installations.

§           XP upgrades/ service packs assess and install those determined to be critical.

 

Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor  (1991 to 2004)

§           Provided direct delivery of vocational services and caseload activities to the disabled population.

§           Performed client intakes and collect background information.  Determined eligibility by medical, psychometric and case study diagnosis information.  Counseled and guided participants by using counseling techniques, vocational assessments and Individual Written Rehabilitation Plan.  Set up vocational services with vendors and certified providers.

§           Fostered self-reliance among participants and eliminate barriers to employment by offering medical restoration, job accommodation, and assistive technology and training services.

§           Assisted clients in the computer lab to do their job search at a WorkSource Center.

 

Regional ITSS Trainer  (1993 to 2002, part time as “other duties as assign”)

§          Taught Service Tracking & Reporting System (STARS), Windows 3.x, 95, NT & XP, MS Word, Washington Occupational Information System (WOIS), Internet, Intranet, and OASYS applications to staff.

HEARING, SPEECH & DEAFNESS CENTER                                                                                     1988 - 1991

The overall objective of this employment was to provide direct job search placement activities with hearing impaired clients.

 

Vocational Specialist

§             Maintained a caseload of job ready disabled clients for employment placements for PWI grant and provided similar services as fee for services to DVR.

§             Contacted and visited numerous employers to locate and develop job opportunities.  Also provided training, follow up services for the participant, DVR and employer.  Conducted weeklong job search workshops on quarterly basis. 

§             Provided technical assistance and presentations to increase awareness on disability related issues.  Compiled and developed an Employer Packet that keeps the disability related information on hand for the employers.

 

 

NEBRASKA COMMISSION FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED                                                                           1986 - 1988

Omaha, Nebraska

 

The overall mission was to provide hearing impaired information, resources and services to the general population in Eastern Nebraska.

 

Field Representative

§             Coordinated NCHI Answering Services (TDD-Voice Telephone communication Relay System in Omaha) and NCHI/Pioneer TDD Loan Program.  Located and assessed services in Eastern Nebraska and served as a resource or contact person.  Counseled individual on general basis and referred them to appropriate agencies or resources for assistance.

§             Consulted with agencies in developing procedures and policies to provide services to the hearing impaired citizens.  Initiated, coordinated and assisted projects in efforts to improve services.

§             Wrote and collected stories for the NCHI Newsletter and Hearing Impaired Video Information Service.  Assisted with the Interpreter Referral Service, sign language interpreter evaluations and Lions Hearing Aid Bank.
