1970-77 Capri Paint Codes

The table below lists the 1970-77 Capri paint codes that we've uncovered so far. It is by no means comprehensive. Because PPG Industries paints are in widespread use, the PPG Industries paint color name and code are given whenever possible. (A word of caution: We have not verified all the PPG color codes, so test before you paint!)

1970-1974 Capri and 1976-77 Capri II use slightly different paint code systems. The 1970-74 Capri paint codes are one letter or number per color; two letters/numbers indicate either a two tone paint scheme or a vinyl roof. Occasionally two character paint codes with the same letter repeated are found; these appear to indicate a solid color, for example JJ for solid Sunset Red.

1976-77 Capri II use two character paint codes for those colors that were introduced after 1974. The first character is the color while the second is the last digit of the year the color was introduced, for example L6 for Signal Orange introduced in 1976. Ford The color names also reflect this. The paint codes for colors introduced before 1974 are a single character as before.

A few codes are listed for years after 1977. These codes apply to later European built cars, not to the US-built (Mustang based) 1979-86 Capri. 1978 codes may apply to the leftover 1977 Capris that were modified and sold as 1978 models, but this is uncertain.
