MoN-SoM Do

"Master of None, Student of Many"

A concept in Martial Arts Cross-Training

"MoN-SoM Do" is the culmination of 20+ years study into many of the more traditional martial arts styles. From traditional Boxing, Korean Taekwondo, Chinese Tai Chi's, Japanese Aikido and Jujitsu, Brazilian Jujitsu, African, Russian and French martial arts forms, traditional Karate's, Judo, Grappling/Wrestling, Edged Weapons and Martial Arts Weapons comes the basis for, "MoN-SoM Do".

"MoN-SoM Do" is based on a theory that all self defense systems are created equal. Meaning, they are all designed with a common purpose in mind, self defense. The concept of "MoN-SoM Do", came from a desire and need for a self defense art, that is capable of keeping pace with the society of today and that of the future. Most of the martial arts systems currently in exsistence, were designed for a different time in our history, the past. Life has changed since that time as should the martial arts. The concept of, "the study of one art at a time, makes a Master" (of that one art), must be replaced with the concept of, "Cross-Training, makes an Asset" (to society).

Tradition, has impressed upon the martial arts a need to remain loyal to one chosen art, while closing off any thoughts of cross- training in other art forms. The rational is, "It will taint, the teachings of the original art", thereby making the student a disloyal follower or "slacker" of that chosen art, even though he/she may be showing, strong work and study ethics while cross-training in other arts. This is of no matter to a teacher who only has time to teach his art, "And away with the foolishness of this student who dares to learn or bring something new, to my hallowed art".
Many students lose interest in the Martial Arts, by this one fact alone.

"MoN-SoM Do", breaks from the traditions of the older sytems, by stating that "To be locked into one art, is to die". The best way to be prepared for life's encounter's, no matter what they may be, is to be well studied and prepared in, many things. "MoN-SoM Do" makes this possible by allowing the student to study many different styles over, say a 5 year period, instead of just one art over that same 5 year period.
Of which student, the "one art student", or the "student of many", would have greater success against adversity no matter what it is? Most likely, the mon-som-do student.

Following philosophies and theories studied, developed and adapted by the late Bruce Lee* and other masters, "MoN-SoM Do" incorporates some of the idea's taught by them such as, "there is no correct way to fight" "why remain loyal to one art" , with the underlying goal being, "take what you can from any art, meld it together and use it in a manner which suits you best".

Taught in the "traditional ways", for enhanced physical and mental conditioning, "MoN-SoM Do" is designed to fit each and every students individual talents and abilities. It is hoped that this will lead the student to further study specific arts more thoroughly, or develop their own unique styles using "MoN-SoM Do" as a base.

"MoN-SoM Do" is more than just a Defensive Art, it is also, a way of life. Through the continual practice of "MoN-SoM Do", the student prepares the mind as well as the body. MoN-SoM Do encourages proper nutrition, fitness training, meditation excercises, practice, general well being and a code of honor, as part of it's cirriculum.

"MoN-SoM Do", is as unique as the student who studies and develops it, taking on many forms and styles, it would be difficult to put it in any classification of martial arts, and is therefore being considered a Defensive Art rather than, a Martial Art."

*- "MoN-SoM Do" is not affiliated nor meant to be associated with Jeet Kune Do, a martial arts style developed by, Bruce Lee. "MoN-SoM Do" does not incorporate any of the fighting techniques developed or adapted by, Bruce Lee. "MoN-SoM Do" is not associated or affiliated to any other style of martial art or defensive art currently in existence.
