I have tried several different engines to power my projects, with limited success. My goal is to come up with a low cost, light weight, reliable, fuel-efficient power source. Not an easy task.

25 hp Kohler on my Blue Tail Hawk, not quite enough thrust.

This is a Corvair engine conversion I built from the Ultravair plans. It needs more development.

38 hp Generac mounted on my ThunderGull.

As of Oct, 2007 the Generac looks very promising. For the Thunder Gull, it has plenty of thrust as a direct drive spinning a 54" Culver prop. I re-worked it so the weight is around 80 pounds. I plan to try it on my Blue Tail Hawk next.

I have been reporting on the development of the direct drive Generac to the "Small4-strokeEngine" Yahoo group. If interested, search thru the message archive on that site for those reports. Search on "ThunderGull/Generac".

electric power, maybe the best yet, at least for the Red Tail Hawk.
