This day started out early and difficult. I was certainly not looking forward to Rob losing his second
foot and part of his leg. I put one foot in front of the other and away we went. Eating on the way to be sure
to be there before he went to surgery. My ministry partner, Madeline, could hardly get her eyes open. Of all days, this was one he was very much awake and aware of what was happening. Several doctors came in and
finally one came in to tell him about the surgery. He looked at me and I explained. He cried some but seemed to
take it well. Not the terror as before, just dread and heavy breathing. As a Mother, I told him how sorry I was
and how he would still be able to walk with prosthesis. They were a little late, but finally they came to take him to
surgery. He had been trying to talk and talk so I finally insisited they wait until they could get the plug in so we could
understand him. He had been trying so hard to communicate, I thought it was important. When we put the plug in,
I leaned down and said, What do you need to ask Honey? He said, 'I don't need anything now." LOL that is my Rob. We went to surgery and right before they wheel him in, I tell him I love him and all
the things you say and again he talks. I can't understand him but his nurse does. He asks, "Will I be shorter?" She
said, "Yes, you will be my height and able to look me in the eye." I said, " When you get your new feet, you can even be taller
if you want." He was OK with that. In around 3 hours he was back in his
room awake and talking. I was amazed. He took the whole thing amazingly well. He has hardly slept today.
He seems to be in very little pain unless the leg is moved. The doctor was very pleased with the surgery and believes
he is going to do very well. After returning to his room he kept pulling
at the wrapping on his right hand. I assured him his fingers were there and OK. I explained to him that they were
sluffing off at the ends and were a little infected. He said," Tell them to go ahead and do the surgery on them so we
can get all this stuff taken care of." I was floored. He is such a trooper!! Then he said, "Pray for my fingers." Wow,
that is a first! He has really begun to reach out to God. His medical
doctor is planning a meeting on Monday. It seems many people on Campral try to commit suicide. He is going to have a
pharmacist in there and see what we all, (the man he lives with) can come up with together. We still don't know what
happened. Rob is so alert but still says things that let you know he only there fully part time. He ask Jim, the man he lives with to get him a wheel chair. He wanted to go home today. He told me to break
off the leg braces that keep his knees from staying bent so they will fit his prosthesis. It was so good to see him watching
tv and asking for things. He got his first taste of sprite today. He hasn't had food for 5 weeks. He kept telling everybody that came in, "That's my Mom" That made me feel loved
and appreciated. I had to go home for a short nap today and he got really upset even though there were several other people
in the room. So I went back this evening until visiting hours were over. I feel so relieved and happy. He is doing way better than the last two surgeries. He does have a fever
of 104 degrees. We are believing for his quick recovery. Doctors are amazed everyday. He is doing so well. Thanks so much for your wonderful prayers and support. May God richly bless you! Pamela
