One Thing I Desire

Psalm 27:4  One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek:
         That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
         To behold the [a]beauty of the LORD
         And to meditate in His temple.

Psalm 57:4 My soul is among lions;
         I must lie among those who breathe forth fire,
         Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows
         And their tongue a sharp sword.

Psalm 87: 2The LORD loves the gates of Zion
         More than all the other dwelling places of Jacob.
    3 Glorious things are spoken of you,
         O city of God. Selah.
    4"I shall mention Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me;
         Behold, Philistia and Tyre with Ethiopia:
         'This one was born there.'"

Psalm 117:1Praise the LORD, all nations;
         Laud Him, all peoples!

Psalm 147: 13For He has strengthened the bars of your gates;
         He has blessed your sons within you.
    14He makes peace in your borders;
         He satisfies you with the finest of the wheat.

David is comparing where he is now, to where he longs to be.   In each of these psalms, he is comparing and contrasting the city of God, and the city outside the gates.    He is even comparing the holy place of God, to the holiest of all places in God.

In Psalm 27 David is saying that there is only One thing, one thing he desires.  That is to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life and to behold the beauty of the Lord, to inquire in his temple and to meditate on all His laws.

But in Psalm 57,  he is saying this is where he is now.  His soul lies among the lions, those who breathe fire, the sons of men, (not the sons of God, but those in the world), whose teeth are like spears and arrows, this is where David is, but where he longs to be is fixing his eyes on the beauty of God.

Psalm 87 is David declaring what the Lord says about those who long to be in His temple, His city.  Indeed, the Lord will even speak GLORIOUSLY of those who are in His Temple, not only that but He says we are BORN THERE.  It is where we desire to be all the while because we ARE BORN THERE.   The Lord loves the Gates of Zion, more than the dwelling places of Jacob.    The dwelling places of Jacob are like the  places where the Church decides to camp out and stay and not go forward any more.   But gates are symbolic of entering into a new place.    The Lord loves the gates of Zion (the entry way into the holiest place of all) more than the dwelling places of the Church ("we have our ministry, things are good, we dont need to push on any further")  Not only that but He will make sure our name is known to all if we keep on pushing through to a better place in Him!  Our push, our desire, our longing for a better place, a higher place to be, only means we were born there, and the Lord loves to make our name known among the nations because its also our desire to make His name known among nations.  (Psalm 117)

Psalm 147:13 says He will strengthen our gates.  He will strengthen the entry ways so that they open easily for us, they lock behind us, the keep intruders and enemies out but allow us access in and out as we choose. They will be strengthened so that the enemy cannot bust them down, they will be fortified so that no harm will come to us NOR OUR FAMILIES.

He makes PEACE within our borders and boundaries.  He has set up boundaries for us to keep peace IN!!  This is a promise.  Peace is ours within our borders and boundaries!!!   But check this out,  interesting that peace is associated with the finest of wheat!  There is a connection of peace, and fine wheat!   One is spiritual the other is natural.    The finest of wheat represents provision.  It also represents health.  it represents satisfaction and nourishment.    All our needs will be met as we press into something higher in Him.

If our desire is as Davids desire,  to press into a higher place in Him, for the purpose of beholding His glory, seeing His beauty, inquiring and meditating upon Him in His temple,  then He says the reason we do is because it is our home, the place we were born, and He will make our name known all over the world.  He will strengthen our gates, our bars, our boundaries, to keep us free from the lions and those who breathe out fire, and thsoe whose teeth are like sharp spears, but within our borders are peace, provision, security, nourishment, satisfaction and healing.

Jesus is our Daily Bread.  He is the Finest Wheat of all.

*********************

Father I thank you that there is a place in you that is so much higher than where I am at.  This life I now live is not all there is but there is something greater You always have for me and as long as I live on this earth I will seek to press in to obtain this higher place in You. This place where I can live in You, and behold You all the days of my life, this secret place, this safe place, this glorious place in Your temple.   I look around and see dust and dirt and dogs and I look at my finances that they are little, and my food is not the highest quality, and my life is not the reflection of You I desire, so I will keep on pressing in, knowing there is a place I can remain.   A better place, a glorious place, I can remain.   I am greatful Lord that you love this about me, that I will keep pressing in to obtain the highest prize.   For You have made me to be an Overcomer in Your Name.   Lord you are glorious and beautiful and I thank you for strengthening me as I continue to seek Your face.

I love you Lord....
