8/28/05

D E A E F#m

John by the Jordan baptizing

D E F#

“Come and repent” was his cry

D E A E F#m

When he saw Jesus he stood in awe

D E D G A

“it’s you who should baptize, not I.”

D E A C#m F#m

Jesus said “No, John, we shall fulfill

D E A C#M D

All righteousness by my Father’s will.”

D E A E F#m

John baptized Him then looked up to see

D E F#

The Spirit descend like a dove.

D E A C#m F#m

“This is my Son in whom I’m well-pleased”

D E D G A

Glory come down from above.

D E A E F#m

High up the mountain Jesus climbed

D E F#

With James and Peter and John

D E A E F#m

They watched amazed as His clothes turned white

D E D G A

And his face shone like the sun.

D E A C#m F#m

They saw Elijah and Moses stand

D E A C#m D

Talking to Jesus like some old friend

D E D A F#m

Then overhead a mighty cloud

D E F#

Spoke forth with eternal love

D E A C#m F#m

“This is my Son in whom I’m well-pleased”

D E D G A

Glory come down from above.

D E A E F#m

Out on the road two disciples walked

D E F#

A stranger asked “why be sad?”

D E A E F#m

“The priests and Romans have crucified

D D D E D G A

The only hope Israel had.”

D E A C#m F#m

He said “Oh Foolish men, you should know

D E A C#m D

The prophets told you it must be so.”

D E A A E F#m

As they broke bread, their eyes opened to see

D E F#m

Messiah, the one they had loved

D E A C#m F#m

The Father’s Son in whom He’s well-pleased

D E D G A

Soon to rise up above.

D A A C#m F#

Now we’re his sons in whom He’s well-pleased

D E D G A

Bathed by the light of His love.
