Welcome, Bluegrass Fans!

Welcome to my personal website, panthercreekstudios.

For song samples, scroll to bottom of home page.

My name is Doug Knecht.  I have played for many bands, including The Paul Davis Show, The Bluegrass Knechtion, The Bluegrass Cracker Jaks, Bluegrass Express, Diamonds in the Rough, Don Brown and the Ozark Mountain Trio, Wild and Blue, Shady Mix, Chris Jones and the Night Drivers, Sally Jones and the Sidewinders, Ashton Gap, and Molly Mathewson and the Loggerhythms.  My favorite instrument is banjo, but I like guitar and mandolin as well.  I also run my own mini studio here in Roanoke, IL called Panther Creek Studios.  You can check out some of the songs on my new debut CD below, see the photos of some of my best pickin' friends, and visit some of their websites!
-thanks!

This is my buddy Ashley Lewis and myself.  Ashley is an expert and professional on the mandolin, and sings and writes some great songs as well.  She has her own CD out called "Past Presence".  Ashley is destined to be playing with the big cats (she's already a star in my book!)  so watch for her in the future!  You can learn more about her band "Ashton Gap" by clicking on the link below.

Some of my favorite banjo players would be Earl Scruggs, Sonny Osborne, Ralph Stanley, Alan Munde, Terry Baucom, Scott Vestal, Ron Block, Bela Fleck, Tom Adams, JD Crowe, Ron Stewart, Craig Smith, and the list goes on indefinately.  They've all had an influence on my picking style, and I'm lucky to say I know atleast three of these people personally.

I recorded my CD here at Panther Creek Studios too.  I use MAGIX software, along with a nice Peavey VMP2 preamp (that used to belong to Steve Wariner...!) and some good mics.  Learning to record, mix, and master is a fun hobby for me, and I'm looking forward to recording some more musicians in the near future.

These are some of my friends at the Illinois State Fair Banjo Contest back in 1992:
Molly Mathewson, Doug Knecht (me), Mark Mathewson, Jenny Lees, and Margie Mathewson.
Mark is an accomplished songwriter and singer as well.  He wrote "Sorry County Blues" for Lonesome River Band, "I Let a Good Woman Go" and
"Last Dollar Blues" for Blue Highway, plus many more songs for top artists in bluegrass.  His daughter Molly is now 16 years old and heads her own band "Molly Mathewson and the Loggerhythms", consisting of Molly (vocals, penny whistle, mandolin), Mark (guitar & vocals), Ann Bova (bass and vocals) and myself on banjo.  Click on the link below to learn about Ann Bova and Joe Bohlen's "The Cabin Concerts".

This is my good friend Merle Lawson.  Merle have known each other for probably close to 25 years.  He is a fine banjo picker, and also very good at fixing problems on my banjo.  This picture is of us at Christmas time at his wife's birthday party/jam session they hold every year.
