Anacortes Eagles #249

EaglesBldg.jpg

The Anacortes Eagles' was granted the 249 charter to the Fraternal Order Of Eagles on August, 1902 by the Grand Aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Seattle, Washington.

The present building was built by the membership in 1920 and has been occupied by the Aerie and Auxiliary since.  Over the years the building has been the center of many local functions.  Most famous was the era of the 1920 thru the 1940 of Ballroom Dancing. The top floor of the building has a unobstructed hardwood dance floor.  The Fisherman Dances were held every weekend over the years.  Many weddings and receptions have been held in the ballroom along with lodge meetings.  The Club held Bingo for many years in the lower level and also many special events. The lower level has a full kitchen for functions.

During the second world war the building had to be blacked out so plywood was installed over all the windows to prevent light from peering out.  It has taken a lot of discussion to remove the plywood but the windows are being opened as time and money is available.

Our largest fund raiser is our annual Bar-B-Que.  For the past 54 years the BBQ started out as a side event for a boat raffle and eventually turned into a two day affair and for the past many years has become a three day event.  Where else can you see close to a ton of KING Salmon, 500 half  Chicken and 1000 pounds of Country Pork Ribs being cooked over alder wood fires.  Only in Anacortes the Third Weekend of August each year from 11:00am to 7:00pm (or till we run out)
Friday, Saturday and Sunday

The Club is a Not for Profit Fraternal Origination for members and guests.  We are open to our membership seven days a week  for social gatherings, meetings, dinners, and fund raisers.
