Phoebe's Second Week

We're in Phoebe's second week of life on the outside.  She's doing well so far, though she isn't giving us much in the way of rest at the moment.  When Ellen isn't keeping us awake, Phoebe has decided to keep us up.  She has decided that her awake time is some time around 1.30am and then again around 4am which lasts until roughly 5.50am.  We have tried to take naps in the afternoon, but Ellen has decided that she didn't want to nap this week.  More on this later.

Phoebe is becoming quite strong.  She always had the strong neck muscles, but she can really hold her head up now.  Her eyes can track slow moving objects pretty well now, and she really studies our faces.  We had her 2 week appointment as well.  We found out that they mis-measured her in the hospital.  Instead of 22 inches, she is really only 20.5inches.

    Weight: 8lbs 3oz
    Height: 20.5in
    Head circumference: 13.75in

The only requirement the doctors have is that babies gain back their birth weight by 2 weeks, so she's eating very well.  We found out pretty much what we already knew.  She's still perfect.

We've been feted pretty well all week by our wonderful friends and their fabulous food.  Each night, we have been treated to foods from around the globe: Greece, Italy, and the good old U. S. of A.  We are very grateful for all the help and wonderful dinners we have received this week.

We have certainly needed the help since we have had our precious little Ellen home with us all day every day this week.  She has completed her stint with her day care until next year since Jada will be out for several weeks, and when she goes back, I'll be home through the end of the school year.  Ellen has decided that she doesn't much care for napping any more.  She finally took a real nap on Friday afternoon, but she has started a new phase this week.  When we lay her down in the crib, instead of laying down and wishing us a good night, she sits up immediately and cries for daddy.  And at night, she has started asking that her door be left open.  She eventually stops crying and goes back to singing and talking and falling asleep, so we're hoping it's just a phase.

El has entered her 2's like a lion.  She has settled down a bit this week with the excitement of being a new big sister, but she is still 2.  She's entered her "What's that?" phase, but it's just so cute.  Ellen has become quite the little talker.  She will talk on the phone with people even though she only tends to look around the room and tell them what she sees: Book, dinosaur, chair, bouncy seat.  She does love her sister though.  When we're in the car and Phoebe's hat has fallen over her eyes, she'll let us know so we can fix it.

Well, tomorrow my 2 weeks of "vacation" is over.  I have to go back to work.  It'll be a whole new adventure getting the kids up in the morning, still making it to work on time, and trying to function on 2 or 3 hours of sleep.  I'm not looking forward to it.
