Bears and Noise

By Ellen Pearson

We had to put all food in bear boxes. Take all food out of the car. We were all also extremely tired and we hoped for a peaceful night. Now, at bedtime, we went to bed, but not before hotdogs roasted over the fire.

Later, it got really dark out and noises went on and on. After a bit, the trees shadow over our tent, looked like the claws of an angry bear extended to grab me.

I called for mom or dad.  “It’s just a tree,” they had answered sleepily,” go back to sleep.”  I refused.

When the fear had subsided and sleepiness had settled in, the loud music and partying still went on.  They finally settled down around 1 am.

I heard Mom say once again “go to sleep.”  This time I complied.  I slept like a log while visions of people partying danced in my head.
