Ellen and Phoebe's Photo Exhibition

We bought Ellen and Phoebe their own cameras in May 2007.  In this space, we'll be show casing their talented eyes and perspective.

Ellen Phoebe
May 2007
  • Ellen's photos at NWTR 2007 were somehow lost.  Either accidentally deleted in the bag, or through camera malfunction.
  • Portrait of daddy - Jada liked this one of me since I don't make it into very many pictures.  Plus, Ellen was able to line this up on her own and center it fairly well.  The slight skew to the setup adds interest...or something.
  • Plants on a wall - This one really caught our eye.  It was taken in our neighborhood.  We don't know what kind of plant it is.

July 2007

  • Squirrel lunch - this is a bronze squirrel statuette at the Oregon Zoo that we ate lunch next to on July 4th.
  • Say cheese - Ellen took this picture of Phoebe taking a picture of Nana at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville

September 2007

  • Ellen's camera broke from too many drops.  We're hoping we can get her a new one soon.

December 2007

  • Phoebe and Mommy - Ellen got a new camera with a flash.  She's working on centering her pix, but here's her first one that turned out pretty well.
  • Phoebe and Daddy - learning to tilt the camera up a little higher and hold it steady until after the flash.

January 2008

  • Portrait of Phoebe - Still working on pictures of people, Ellen has started to refine her skills.  I like the spiral paper and slight graininess to this piece.

March 2008

  • Phoebe in recline - Ellen's best subject seem to be her sister.  This captured Phoebe waiting to get her teeth brushed.  I liked the grain and composition of the shot.

December 2008

  • Nana and Phoebe - Ellen caught this picture of Phoebe and Nana.  I like how she caught the light behind them just right.
  • Tree Lights - Ellen's camera was able to catch a nice picture of our tree with some motion that makes this picture pop!

May 2009

  • Statue in natural habitat - Ellen had her camera while taking the recycling out apparently one evening.  She captured a picture of our neighbor's lawn art as if taken from a hiding place.

January 2010

  • Ellen too over 100 pictures while we were at Cannon Beach in mid January.  We were blessed with a spring day which we don't always even get in the summer.  Here's a series of pictures she took while walking on the beach.
    • Dad in silhouette (New) - the sun had ducked behind some clouds, and this shot was taken towards the sun so it came through as sort of black and white on her camera.
    • Footsteps in sand (NEW) - here are converging foot prints with interesting lighting with the sun behind the clouds.
    • Dad stuck (NEW) - Ellen managed to capture me stuck out on the rocks as a wave came in during low tide surprising several of us who had ventured out a little too far.
    • Erosion (NEW) - Ellen experimented with several close ups, way too many to post, but here is a representative shot with interesting sand patterns around a piece of breccia stone.
May 2007
  • View from the trailer - In case you wondered what Phoebe sees while in the trailer, this is apparently it.  I loved the pics we got from this.  I chose this one because it also caught our shadow.
  • Day 2 of NWTR - This was taken by Phoebe as we were preparing to launch on the second morning of the Northwest Tandem Rally in Yakima, WA.  I liked the way she captured the morning sun.
  • Phoebe eye view of the world - This shot was taken on the way to Nancy Riles Elementary School.  That's the brim of her hat at the top of the frame.
  • X takes the square - This was taken at the Nancy Riles playground.  Jada really liked this one for the setup of the shot as if it was purposely layed out.

July 2007

  • Phoebe's pictures didn't come out this time.  Not sure why.  Think that she wasn't actually waiting for the camera to come on before taking the pics.

September 2007

  • Family portrait - this was taken at the last rest stop of the Peach of a Century.
  • Notice the sign - this was in the park at the last rest stop of Peach of a Century near Salem, OR. "Bicycles or motor bicycles prohibited"

December 2007

  • Lamp - Phoebe's camera doesn't have a flash, so many of her shots don't turn out in the winter, but this one just seemed to be an interesting composition.

March 2008

  • Guitar on couch - Phoebe got a new camera and guitar for her birthday.  I liked the color contrast on this one.

December 2008

  • Close-up of sister - it's an interesting close-up of Ellen working.
  • Stuffies - This is a picture Phoebe took of her stuffies.  It's what she calls the things she sleeps with.

May 2009

  • My tools - See if you can guess what this is.  Give up?  It's Phoebe's screw driver set up close and personal.  I really liked this picture.

January 2010

  • Mobilo's (NEW) - We had some friends over, and Phoebe played Mobilo's with the boys creating this crane structure.
  • Horizon (NEW) - Phoebe didn't take as many pictures as Ellen did at the beach, but I thought she captured the clouds over the water well here as well as reflections in the water.
