The movie begins with a priest hanging himself in Dunwich, since his suicide, the gates of hell have now opened up. This is forseen during a seance in New York, during which the medium dies for no apparent reason.
A journalist is sent out to find out what happened. His trail leads to the grave of the woman who died in the seance. Two gravediggers leave the coffin uncovered. The journalist hears screaming from the grave, he forces the top off the coffin, revealing the medium panting for breath inside.
Meanwhile, in Dunwich, all hell is going down. When a girl gets killed off by the ghostly priest, everyone suspects the local weirdo, Bob.
The next victims are a young couple in their car. The evil priest manages to make the girl vomit up her intestines just by looking at her, her boyfriend also gets a his cerebral cortex ripped out of his head.
Meanwhile, the journalist and the medium have formed a partnership to work out what is going on. They travel to Dunwich, on the way speaking to a priest who tells them of the suicide of Father Thomas.
Our suspect is still on the run from the police. He sneaks into a garage, which turns out to be owned by the police chief of the town. He hides in the car, but is caught by the chief's daughter, the chief himself wanders in and catches Bob.and murders him
In Dunwich, the journalist and medium meet up with a psychologist who also is interested in the chaos that appears to be enveloping the town. In his office, they get covered in maggots that spray in through an open window.
Suddenly, the walking dead are everywhere, The journalist and medium venture to the tomb of the priest. They break in, only to find zombies all over the place. They discover the priest, and destroy him by shoving a large cross through his stomach, which then catches fire.
