HOYSE CORE:
"My father, Moses Royse, was born June 6, 1700, and lived
in the State of NewYork; was married in 1725. He had two sons
by his first wife, John and Daniel. They both settled in Somerset
County, Pennsylvania.
He was again married to my mother in 1732. I was born in
1734, my sister in 1736.
I was born at a place or country called "The Highlands of
NewYork". Myfather and mother were going on a journey on
horseback through the wilderness whenhe heard something that
made him think Indians were near. He sent mother through a
bypath he thought more safe, but in a few minutes he heard her
scream. He took me by the arm and set me down in a thicket of
brush and said, ‘keep still‘. But I was so frightened I hollowed
and father caught me up again and went in pursuit of
mother. But we never saw or heard of her or my sister again.
Mysister was six years old and I was eight at this time.
Myfather did eve rything in his power to find mymother but
all in vain, we never heard of her again. Welived in the
Highlands of NewYork and followed Indian Trading.
I was married in 1759. (Aaron leaves out his early life,
part of which he spent in the Colonial Militia with General
Braddock in 1755. C.D.) Moses, the only child of this wife,
was born in 1761 in the Highlands of NewYork. His mother died
when he was one year old. .
I was married again in September, 1763. when Moses was
14 years old (1775) we all movedto the State of Virginia. We
came by water ( the Susquehanna, probably, C.D.) And landed
at Alexandria." ~

by his first wife, John and Daniel. They both settled in Somerset
County, Pennsylvania.
He was again married to my mother in 1732. I was born in

I was born at a place or country called "The Highlands of

horseback through the wilderness whenhe heard something that
made him think Indians were near.
