Troy Maurice Sellman was born January 10, 1898 in Brocksburg, Nebraska on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. His parents were Arthur Alexander Sellman and Lennie Leota Knapp Sellman. He and his family moved to Keota, Iowa in April, 1914. Troy, or Whitie, as he was known, served in the Army as a Sergeant during World War I. On June 23, 1926, he married Mary Margaret Arnold in Ottumwa, Iowa. He and Margie, as Mary was known, had two children: Robert and Norma. Troy was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and of Pioneer Barracks No. 0667 Veterans Of World War I. He died at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Bob Sellman, 92, died peacefully September 27, 2019, after a period of declining health. Bob was born Apr. 12, 1927 to Troy Maurice and Mary Margaret Arnold Sellman in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was raised in Keota, Iowa, and graduated high school there. He joined the Army in June 1945, spent boot camp at Fort Riley, Kansas, and served in Tokyo, Japan, as a musician in the 1st Cavalry Band. Upon his return to the states, he attended Iowa State Teachers college, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Education. He earned a Master of Education from Western Illinois University in 1969. His first teaching job was in Morning Sun, Iowa as a band teacher and assistant football coach. He met his future wife, Patricia Joanne Breon, there in September 1952 when he took a few of her students out of class for music lessons. They were married on May 24, 1953 in Hedrick, Iowa. They moved to Pocahontas, Iowa, where they taught until 1959, and taught in Keokuk, Iowa until 1970. He then moved his family to Beaverton, Oregon and taught at Whitford Junior High until retirement in 1990. He once said that he never had a bad day teaching and missed it after he retired. He enjoyed sports, particularly golf as a member of The Reserve.
Bob and Joanne enjoyed bridge, travel, concerts, the arts, and raising their family. As anyone who knew Bob can attest, he loved to tell stories and jokes, many of which went over the heads of his children and students but were later appreciated in adulthood. He looked up to his parents, as did his children with him. Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne, in 1997.
He is survived by his children, Kirk (Eileen) of Tigard, Oregon, Mark (Kerri) of Savannah, Georgia, and Kay of Savannah, Georgia. He is also survived by a sister, Norma Richardson, four grandchildren, Bobby, Troy, Joanna, and Julia, and great-granddaughter, Ruby Elizabeth Sellman. Even with his recent illness, he enjoyed watching sports on television, reading books, and visiting with family, where his well-known sense of humor entertained everyone. Bob enjoyed a beer and a hand of cards with friends after a round of golf at Meriwether and The Reserve. He was a member of the Elks, Masons, and American Legion. His children felt fortunate to have had such a decent father, and will miss his love and guidance. He will be missed by the many friends he accumulated throughout his life. He leaves behind a void few will fill. A private inurnment will be held in Willamette National Cemetery Columbarium in Portland, Oregon. Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association.

Patricia Joanne Breon was born February 10, 1932 in Hedrick, Iowa to Bryan Verle and Gladys Belle Irene McHendry Breon.
She graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa with a teaching degree.
On May 24, 1953 she married Robert Troy Sellman in Hedrick, Iowa. They had three children: Kirk, Mark & Kay.
Jo was a teacher for the first two years of her marriage. When the family moved to Beaverton, Oregon on July, 1970, she went back to work as a dental office manager.
Jo passed away from a brain tumor on December 25, 1997 in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Mrs. Snyder was born in Ohio in 1843 and was therefore at the time of her death, October 17, in the seventy-sixth year of her age. In early girlhood she moved with her parents to Ill. where she married Alexander Sellman.
When her husband was a soldier in the civil war, Mrs. Sellman served as a nurse and did much to relieve the suffering of that cruel war.
In later years, she lived in Iowa where she married Joseph Snyder who died here in Bothell a few years ago.
Her two sons, Ed and Oscar were with her at the time of her death. Mrs. Snyder was a kindly soul who made friends of everybody she met and her death causes the community wide regret. She entered into rest with the satisfaction of having done her best during a long eventful life.
A short burial service was read at the grave by Rev. B. W. Rinehart and the service was in charge of the Home Undertaking Co. Her body rests in the Bothell Cemetery.

Alexander Arthur Sellman, the fifth child of Henry and Susanna Shaw Sellman, was born April 1, 1837 in Cross Plains, Indiana. At the age of nine, he lost his mother. Henry remarried to Elizabeth Vail, who helped raise Alex as her own.
In 1859, Henry, Elizabeth and Alex moved to Roseville, Illinois, where they lived for ten years.
On March 31, 1861, Alex married Lucelia Agatha Rice. Their first child, Rosella, was born January 26, 1862.
Alex joined the 83rd Illinois Infantry on August 8, 1862, and was wounded in the left breast by an accidental discharge of a musket on a boat heading towards his first assignment. The wound wasn't severe enough to end his service, but it lead to a lifetime of pain and disability. Alex was detailed as a clerk for Inspector of Post at the Headquarters of the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division reporting to Captain Noble in Clarksville, Tennessee. Alex was discharged on July 4, 1865 in Chicago, Illinois.
Alex returned home to farm the land he owned with his father. He and Lucelia had four more children, Arthur Alexander (born September 22, 1866), Henry Oscar (born Jun 10, 1867), Samuel S. (born 1869), and Edgar Benjamin (born 1871).
About 1870, Alex and family moved to Jasper County, Iowa.
In 1877, in a pension application, Alex was described as six feet tall, light complexion, brown hair, and grey eyes. The family moved to Audubon County, Iowa that same year.
In September, 1888, in a declaration for pension increase, he weighed 156 lbs., was almost blind in the left eye, couldn't hear out of his left ear, and couldn't tighten his left hand onto anything.
In October, 1888, they moved to Keya Paha County, Nebraska.
In an affidavit, Alex stated that because of his disability, he taught school, grew fruit, and was a grocer at various times in his life. Alex's disability worsened to a point where he left his family in October, 1891 & checked himself into the Iowa State Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
On March 3, 1892, Alex and Lucelia were divorced.
In April 1894, Alex was discharged from the Iowa State Veterans Home, and on September 29, 1894, he was admitted to the Northwest branch of the National Soldier's Home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. On April 3, 1895, he was discharged at his own request.
On April 10, 1895, Alex married Hulda A. Martin in Chicago, Illinois.
On September 23, 1895, he was again admitted back into the Northwest branch. Alex spent time in the Mountain Branch Veteran Soldiers Home in Johnson City, Tennessee, the Danville Illinois National Soldiers Home, and finally at the Southern Branch in Hampton, Virginia.
Alex died July 7, 1923 in Hampton, Virginia from chronic interstitial nephritis. He was buried at the Hampton National Cemetery in Hampton, Virginia on July 11, 1923.

Mrs. Snyder was born in Ohio in 1843 and was therefore at the time of her death, October 17, in the seventy-sixth year of her age. In early girlhood she moved with her parents to Ill. where she married Alexander Sellman.
When her husband was a soldier in the civil war, Mrs. Sellman served as a nurse and did much to relieve the suffering of that cruel war.
In later years, she lived in Iowa where she married Joseph Snyder who died here in Bothell a few years ago.
Her two sons, Ed and Oscar were with her at the time of her death. Mrs. Snyder was a kindly soul who made friends of everybody she met and her death causes the community wide regret. She entered into rest with the satisfaction of having done her best during a long eventful life.
A short burial service was read at the grave by Rev. B. W. Rinehart and the service was in charge of the Home Undertaking Co. Her body rests in the Bothell Cemetery.

Alexander Arthur Sellman, the fifth child of Henry and Susanna Shaw Sellman, was born April 1, 1837 in Cross Plains, Indiana. At the age of nine, he lost his mother. Henry remarried to Elizabeth Vail, who helped raise Alex as her own.
In 1859, Henry, Elizabeth and Alex moved to Roseville, Illinois, where they lived for ten years.
On March 31, 1861, Alex married Lucelia Agatha Rice. Their first child, Rosella, was born January 26, 1862.
Alex joined the 83rd Illinois Infantry on August 8, 1862, and was wounded in the left breast by an accidental discharge of a musket on a boat heading towards his first assignment. The wound wasn't severe enough to end his service, but it lead to a lifetime of pain and disability. Alex was detailed as a clerk for Inspector of Post at the Headquarters of the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division reporting to Captain Noble in Clarksville, Tennessee. Alex was discharged on July 4, 1865 in Chicago, Illinois.
Alex returned home to farm the land he owned with his father. He and Lucelia had four more children, Arthur Alexander (born September 22, 1866), Henry Oscar (born Jun 10, 1867), Samuel S. (born 1869), and Edgar Benjamin (born 1871).
About 1870, Alex and family moved to Jasper County, Iowa.
In 1877, in a pension application, Alex was described as six feet tall, light complexion, brown hair, and grey eyes. The family moved to Audubon County, Iowa that same year.
In September, 1888, in a declaration for pension increase, he weighed 156 lbs., was almost blind in the left eye, couldn't hear out of his left ear, and couldn't tighten his left hand onto anything.
In October, 1888, they moved to Keya Paha County, Nebraska.
In an affidavit, Alex stated that because of his disability, he taught school, grew fruit, and was a grocer at various times in his life. Alex's disability worsened to a point where he left his family in October, 1891 & checked himself into the Iowa State Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
On March 3, 1892, Alex and Lucelia were divorced.
In April 1894, Alex was discharged from the Iowa State Veterans Home, and on September 29, 1894, he was admitted to the Northwest branch of the National Soldier's Home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. On April 3, 1895, he was discharged at his own request.
On April 10, 1895, Alex married Hulda A. Martin in Chicago, Illinois.
On September 23, 1895, he was again admitted back into the Northwest branch. Alex spent time in the Mountain Branch Veteran Soldiers Home in Johnson City, Tennessee, the Danville Illinois National Soldiers Home, and finally at the Southern Branch in Hampton, Virginia.
Alex died July 7, 1923 in Hampton, Virginia from chronic interstitial nephritis. He was buried at the Hampton National Cemetery in Hampton, Virginia on July 11, 1923.

Henry Oscar Sellman passed away Thursday, April 11th, after an illness of several years. He was born June 10, 1867 in Roseville, Illinois, the son of Alexander & Lucelia Rice Sellman.
Henry married Ida Florence Strahl on January 5, 1893 in Audubon, Iowa.
He was 68 at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Rosella, and brothers, Samuel and Arthur. He is survived by his widow, of this city, a brother, Edgar, and nine children. Funeral services were held Monday from the Georgetown Funeral Parlors with the Rev. Clyde L. Walker officiating. Cremation followed.

The birth date above was her baptism date. She was born at Glemsford, Suffolk, England and baptised at St. Mary the Virgin Church there on March 24,1587/8. The family later moved to nearby Stanstead.
Elizabeth married Henry Rice at St James’ Church in Stanstead on November 12,1605.
Children(by first marriage): Henry Rice, Edward Rice, Henry Rice, Elizabeth Rice Moore**, Mary Rice, and Ann Rice.
** Elizabeth, and probably the other children then living, was adopted by her mother's second husband, Philemon Whale. (Elizabeth Frost Rice married Philemon Whale in Sudbury, Co.Suffolk soon after Henry Rice's death. This has caused some researchers to mistakenly refer to Whale as the father of Henry Rice's children.)

According to Ward, a tribute to Gershom Rice appeared in the Boston Gazette. In part it reads:
"Worcester, 19 December 1768. This day died here Mr. Gershom Rice, who completed the age of 101 years some time last May, besides retained his reason and understanding in a very good degree to the last. He enjoyed a long and almost uninterrupted state of bodily health; was able, till very lately, to travel on foot a mile or two a day among his neighbors; eat his food with a good appetite and sleep quietly at night without any attendance.
"He was naturally of a very pleasant disposition, very courteous in his behavior towards all, and withal grave and serious. Of late, the decay of Nature came on him fast; and he went calmly and quietly at last, expressing his hope and trust in his Redeemer for admission to a better world.".
The 'Descendents of Edmund Rice', 2003, give his birth dates as 9 May 1667. Marlborough, Middlesex Co., MA.
(Note: Gershom was one of 111 people supposedly moved from the Old Burial Ground to Hope Cemetery in 1968.)
