Information about LCEMA's Weather Stations
|
These
stations were funded by grants obtained through state and federal
agencies
by LCEMA. They were manufactured by a reputable company that
has been creating accurate commercial stations for many years and
are utilized all over the world.
They are currently located at three locations throughout the county.
The National Weather Service utilizes two AWOS weather stations
for official weather information for Lawrence County. Those
stations are located at the Lawrenceville-Vincennes and Mt. Carmel
airports. The National Weather Service's airport weather
stations information is updated and made available to the public
once every hour. LCEMA's weather stations update and
make available to the public weather information every fifteen minutes.
LCEMA does not make any guarantee to the accuracy or timeliness
of any information made available to the public via this website.
The stations are autonomous and given the nature of computers
and the internet, could fail without any prior warning or notice.
The best source for weather warnings or weather information
is through the National Weather Service at Lincoln, Illinois via
their website or NWS
All Hazards Weather Radio KILX Newton, IL. The National
Weather Service uses the NOAA weather reports generated by LCEMA's
weather stations for Significant Weather Observation Program reports. These
stations are used by local area officials and the public for a quick
look at current weather conditions in the county. LCEMA's
weather stations are not used by the National Weather Service to
forecast weather for Lawrence County, but they are used to gain
more information
on current conditions from a wider area throughout Lawrence County.
