LCEMAlert
Updated 6/15/2010

LCEMAlert is an experimental sms texting notification system being offered to
Lawrence County emergency responders, schools, government officials, health care providers, and trained weather spotters.   Subscribers can receive information via cell phone texts regarding critical emergencies or hazards that occur within or affect Lawrence County.  Note that notifications to subscribers after or during an event may not be possible due to power outages, local cell traffic congestion, cell tower destruction, or unavailable internet service providers.  The system may also be utilized as a pre-alert notification system if information is received by LCEMA in a timely manner.  Remember, this system is experimental, subscribers may or may not receive an alert message.  The system may alert subscribers to NWS weather warnings for a Severe Thunderstorm or a Tornado Warning. Other NWS statements may be included at a future date.  Subscribers can also receive information regarding severe storms approaching the area and any special severe weather information received by LCEMA.  The system can also activate or notify Lawrence County NWS trained weather spotters, however spotters must continue to monitor NWS sources such as NWS weather radio for approaching severe weather for activation.   As of now, the system is a one way sender, it will not receive text replies from subscribers. Remember, this system is experimental, subscribers may or may not receive an alert message.

<< CAUTION >>

The LCEMAlert cell phone texting notification system is experimental in Lawrence County.   Due to limited cell tower coverage, cell system traffic congestion, and the efficiency of any cell phone provider's sms texting service, subscribers may not receive an LCEMAlert cell text in a timely manner.  Subscribers must consider this notification system as a supplemental information tool, not a single source or "the" source of any hazards affecting Lawrence County.  As of now, the system is a one way sender, it will not receive text replies from subscribers.   Subscribers must understand their cell phone providers coverage plan.  Additional charges may apply receiving sms text messages outside of the cell phone providers network.   Remember, this system is experimental, subscribers may or may not receive an alert message.

Subscribers must verify that they are one of the following in Lawrence County Illinois:

Fire Fighters
Police Officers
Health Department Staff Supervisors
Hospital Staff Supervisors
Any Educational Facility Staff Supervisors
County or Municipal Government Official
