Analysis

Laws is a strong, stout, gap-penetrating defender who plays with a non-stop motor. He is quick off the snap, takes good angles to the ball, and is relentless in pursuit. Laws graduated in May 2007 with a degree in Marketing and Sociology; he earned a 3.22 GPA. Laws was a 3 time high school All American wrestler, compiling a 142-5 career record. As a result, he understands how to play with great leverage. He is able to effectively get underneath his opponents pads and gain backfield penetration. He is best suited to the 3-technique in a four-man front, but could also play DE in a 3-4 front as he did in ’07 with the Irish. He is also a solid, wrap-up tackler. In conclusion, Laws really benefited by returning to South Bend for his 5th year of eligibility, enjoying a stellar individual season. He more than held his own at the Senior Bowl and will continue to do so at the next level. Laws is slightly undersized, but he more than makes up for deficiencies with his quickness, instinct, and intense play.
