I' am a Dutch Carmichael. We completed our family tree
(starting in 1610) and we are trying to find the roots back. The first name in our tree is
Robert Carmichael. He was a scottish weaponmaker and he supported Holland as a member of
the Scottish Brigades in the war against the Spanish (the so-called 80 years-war during
1558 untill 1648) He arrived in Holland in appr. 1610. Congratualations with your site. Jan Willem |

Very nice site! I am glad that I ran across it! I plan
on trying to trace our family history back a bit farther, and hopefully this site will be
of help. If anyone has info on an "Abraham Carmichael" father of "John
Carmichael" who were possibly Tennessee or Georgia residents in the mid-1800's this
would help me a great bit! Email it to DJLogan910@yahoo.com -- Who knows we could be cousins!?!?!?!?! |

Great find, your site! I actually have a connection to
the tree: I am the 3x great granddaughter of Euphemia Carmichael (b.1795 in W Greenock,
Refrewshire, Scotland). It was her brother, Malcolm, who emigrated to Canada and started the line over there. |

I enjoyed your site very much, and I may have cleared up the confusion about my ancestor Lemuel Carmichael(1784) who married a Suzy(Susannah Brown?).He was listed in the census of Jefferson County,TN-1850 as being from NC.I thought his father's name was John(info from another cousin)but not certain. But he may be the Lemuel who was the son of Duncan Carmichael -&- Charity Witt of NC.I don't know how to check it out but if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.Lemuel had a son named Lemuel, Jr.who married a Susannah M.I have visited their gravesite at Dumplin Church Cemetary in Jefferson County,TN.Their son Porter married a Martha Roberts.Their daughter Maggie was my grandmother, who died in 1906 at age 38 a week after giving birth to a little girl. My father was age 3 and his grandmother Martha Carmichael raised him and his older brother and another of his sisters.I just started looking into this about a year ago so I'm new at this but I've learned so much about my ancestors and I'm hooked. |

Thank you for including me on your web page, my trip to england and scotland has been derailed for awhile due to the events of Sept 11, I am a firefighter for Los Angeles County Fire Department and have been one for 25 years, and the loss of the FDNY firefighters touched me deeply to the point I traveled last month to new york to support our fellow brothers. I went to 6 memorials and visited the men at local new york fire station just to listen and talk. I also visited ground zero, to feel a part of what the men felt while looking for their lost brothers. Hopefully if and when things settledown I can go forward on my research of our ancesters. Lets not forget the ones we lost,

Robert F. Carmichael | 23/Oct/2001:18:09:05
Am trying to verify information about my great
grandfather Archibald Carmichael. Per LDS Scottish Church Records he was born either 1811
or 1814 in Barony, Lanark to Ronald Carmichael -&- Mary Campbell. He emigrated to
Prince Edward Island about 1840, married Mary Trainor. The records do not show a sibling
named Robert, however, I have copies of land deeds that show that Archibald and Robert
each inherited 50 acres of farm land from a Robert Carmichael. Obviously this was their
father. Archibald's siblings were John, Donald, Margaret, Catherine and Sarah, all born in Glasgow. His children wre Robert, Bridget, Clara,James, Duncan, Peter and Mary Margaret. Any information to help clear this confusion would be appreciated. |

Dear Linda (and Matt), Hello! I hope you remember me. I wrote to you last year regarding the Gioia part of your family. In going through the guest book, my cousin, Anthony Rist is also researching. I never mentioned your site, he found it on his own! Anyhow...your site is great and I hope you can help me a little bit more. I am going to Scottdale, PA, within the next two weeks. I really don't know at this point if there is a true relationshipship between Donato and my grandfather Vincenzo. My grandfather came here in 1905. I do know he had two brothers, Francesco and Giovanni Gioia. I believe they are buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in PA. You had mentioned a possible cousin in your e-mail last year. Could you e-mail her and give my e-mail address to her. Maybe she'll know some info that could help me find out more history and facts. I will write to you again on my return from PA. Thank you, Diane Bronico |

Hello, again,Well,we made the trip to Sudbury last week,
and went to a Eyre Cemetary. which one of the older cemetaries in the area. But
unfortunately, they are Carmichael's there. but not my family. I guess maybe being so long
ago, either stone is not longer visible to read,or just not been recorded on the list at
City Cemetaries. I was a little disappointed so this will end my search in that area. I will just have to accepted the the findings of the geneologists and let it go at that. Thank you for your help during these past years. |

Dear Matthew, I just checked in on your MacMurchy home page to see what was new. Wow, you have really been finding out LOTS of new things, and I was impressed by your thoroughness before! One thing I did want to mention is that I'm the granddaughter of Margaret Gordon MacMurchy, and I'm the one who wrote you before. You must have seen Tommy's name on the email signature. That's OK, Nana always thought very highly of my husband, as indeed do I! It's getting too late to explore further tonight, but I look forward to updating my information from your invaluable database. Many thanks, not only for your careful research, but also for your graciousness in sharing your findings. I hope to visit Canada (for the first time!) next summer, and would be very happy to meet you. Your cousin in Georgia, Susan Wilkinson |

I just purchased a home in Clifton Forge (Longdale
Furnace) Virginia that was built in 1873 by William Firmstone and his wife Mary E.
According to a deed dated 1869 he was from Northampton County Pennsylvania. This is a 10,000 sf. Victorian that is a National and VA Historic register in the Longdale Historic District. . Firmstone had purchased The Longdale Iron Co. He introduced the first "hot blast" ore smelting to this furnace which had been going since 1830. The furnace still stands thus the Historic District. We understand he was from England but have no other record. This is quite a home with 8 fireplaces all with imported Italian marble. He had no children and am researching the Firmstone name and came across your page. This has been a Bed-&-Breakfast for some years and we call it The Firmstone Manor. |

Dear Matt: My name is JoAnn Caspar. I am trying to find out if I am related to Hoagie Carmichael. I am descended from Archibald Carmichael by way of Sarah Carmichael who married Thomas J. East. Sarah Carmichael was the daughter of Richard and Mary (Grover) Carmichael. Thomas J. East was the son of Thomas P. East. Richard Carmichael was the son of Archibald. My grandfather was William Reilly East. I'm confused as to how many generations are between William R. East and Thomas P. East. Maybe you can help me with that. I have all the information but it is very confusing. Thanks. Sincerely, JoAnn G. Caspar. |

I'm a native of Liverpool, in the North-West of England, and at the request of my father, I'm conducting research into my family history, which I'm beginning to realise is far more difficult than I expected. My father is the youngest of nine children, and the last of his elderly brothers has recently died, leaving us with the realisation that as these people die, so do the breadcrumbs for us to follow. I'm at the point at which I have a fairly complete record of three generations behind myself, and some further indications of up to another two further generations (stemming from Scotland). If anybody feels that they're in a position to contribute to my research, or would like to ask any questions, then please feel free to contact me.

Linda -&- Matt, Your site is extremely well done, I
found it through my Putman-Wyandt research, looking for Logans. My 4th great-grandmother
Amelia Putman Wyandt's sister,Catherine Putman, married William Logan, Sr. and Amelia's
son Henry's daughter,Catherine Wyandt, married Wm.Logan,Sr.'s son,John Logan in Stark
County,Ohio. I have most of the Weyandt/Wyandt/Wyand family history if you are interested
in reading it. Catherine's father Henry and his brother Jacob were the first two settlers
and also the founders of the town of Wilmot,Ohio where she was born. My 3rd
great-grandfather John Weyandt was their brother, an early settler in Monroe Township,
Harrison County, Ohio. This family is full of early settlers, and several more who founded
towns in Ohio -&- PA. They are a fascinating family,I am having a wonderful time with
this work. I am glad and grateful to add the rest of the Logans to my family history, plus
the Carmichaels -&- Firmstones, etc. as new collateral families. Thank yo |

My husband -&- I have inherited an oil painting of a
cow in a stream. It is signed Carmichael 1914. The only connection we can find with our
family is that my husband's great aunt Edna McSherry married Raymond Carmichael in
Baltimore MD around the early 1900's. It is a lovely painting and we are interested in its
history. If anyone knows about an artist named Carmichael, we would appreciate hearing
from you. Thanks |

Hi, my name is Anthony. I am researching the Gioia's
from Scottdale, PA. I dont know too much about them. This is what I have... Vincenzo Gioia m. Nicolina ? in Italy I'm assuming. They had a son named Vincenzo Gioia who married Theresa Rocco b. 1884 d. 1972. Vincenzo and Theresa had 3 children; Rose b. 1908 (my g-grandmother) in Scottdale. Anthony b. 1910 in Scottdale, and Mary b. 1922 in New York. All of them are still living in New York. Rose and Anthony moved to Gaiano, Province of Palermo, italy when they were both very young with their parents. And then came back to the US probably around 1920. I dont know if we are connected at all, but with you Gioia's from westmoreland co, and mine from westmoreland I'm sure theres a connection somewhere. Please get back to me with that you know. I would appreciate it. Thanks. |

Dear Matt, I have logged on to your website several times and always seem to be short on time, but this time I'm going to write. I live in Albany, OR and I have traced my family back to Hillsburg, Ontario. I read with interest the history of Hillsburg written by Thelma Gray. I think my ggggrandfather, George Henshaw was her ggrandfather. Anyway, do you know of anyway I could contact her? I will print her history of Hillsburg for my files. Thank you for doing such an awesome job on doing your family history and your website. Thank you, Sheri Henshaw Neuschwander |

Hello and God bless, My name is Deb Culp of Albany, N.Y., daughter of Carlton Graeme Carmichael. I came across the website purely by accident this morning, looking for my stepmother's e-mail address. What a beautiful tribute to the family name. The music alone made me cry with joy. There aren't many Carmichaels here in Albany and my father passed away a few years ago. There are just a few details I remember concerning my grandfather and three uncles who came to the United States in the early 1900's. I believe my grandfather's name was Graeme and the names of two of his brothers were, Forrest and Duncan Carmichael. I am the oldest of three daughters. ( my older brother Carlton Carmichael Jr. was killed in an automobile accident in 1971 ). My youngest sister, Beatrice continues to use our family name. Hope to hear from fellow ancestors soon, I may be able to help link a bit more information together for you. Sincerely, |

Matthew, What a wonderful web-site! You can almost smell the heather! My daughter, Sharon Agabra, has been in contact with you about our McMurchy's from Scotland and to be brief, I am wondering if you have "made a connection". We descend from William b. 1744 in Campbeltown and m. Janet Clark. The line is then: James b. 11 Feb 1772 m, Margaret Langlands John b. 18 Sep 1805 m. Elizabeth Winters Elizabeth b. 02 Mar 1833 m. Levi Pemberton Elizabeth (Eliza) was my greatgrandmother, and the first to be born in this country, Clermont Co, OH. It seems like such a "rare" surname, but I have just found another "cousin" in Mississippi, descended from Alexander McMurchy, brother of John. Hope to one day make a connection, as I think they are all related somewhere along the line. My very best to you in your efforts. |

First off I just have to say what a great website you
have! I've just recently confirmed that I am the ggggrandaughter of Susannah Firmstone. According to Richard Beesley she is the daughter of Peter Firmstone and Eliza Challingsworth, I should tell you that I have yet to order the birth certificate of Susannah Firmstone. He also has several more siblings not mentioned on your website. (he's doing a one name study of firmstone) My next task is to order her marriage certificate and from that I can determine the name of Susannah's father - hopefully Peter otherwise ignore this email! :-O). I have so many lines on the go at the moment that I'm zinging in all different directions. Although since I am hoping to put together as detailed as possible tree for my grandmother for my visit to England in June I will be concentrating on the Firmstone connection for the moment. If my calculations are correct that would mean that I am a 4th cousin once removed to Linda? All for no |

Raymond Ritchie | 07/Mar/2001:17:38:45
My name is Raymond Ritchie. Being new to geneology, I
really feel lost. Maybe you can help, and perhaps I am bothering you for nothing. I am
searching for information on my mother's parents. My Grandfather was George DeSantis. He
was either born around 1900 in Pennsylvania, or perhaps in Italy. He married Mary Masemore
in about 1925. They moved to Niagara Falls, New York and raised 5 daughters. He died in
1948 in Niagara Falls, New York. If you have no information, perhaps you could provide a suggestion on how to proceed. Thank you. |
