The index of refraction of a glass is evaluated using the method index; for example, the index of the glass bk7 is evaluated in code using:
n_bk7.index(lambda)
where lambda is a wavelength in microns.
The method ToString returns a string representation of the glass containing the name and the six coefficients.
n_bk7.ToString
The function accepts an optional format string.
Glasses may alternatively be accessed through the function GetGlass.

New glasses may be created, when the six coefficients are known, given in a single array, using the constructor,

where name is the name assigned to the new glass. The manufacturer can be Coef_2 for the Schott convention for the coefficients (ref. 2), and Coef_1 for the λ-8 ... λ2 functional form used by most of the other specifications. The values of nd and νd are not used except for display purposes.
The shared function names returns a list of the names of the defined glasses in the class.
Wavelengths of selected atomic transitions are also instantiated as shared members of the class. See the section below.
