Upperthong

We love to just walk out of Springfield House, go around the corner, and head uphill. And I'm not kidding, it's steep! At the top of the lane, you can sit on a bench and rest. We're tough; we keep on going.

Sometimes, we go left at the bench, with great views down into Holmfirth. Then we walk along Binns Lane, AKA Millionaires' Row, to Upperthong. Other times we go right and walk above Mark's Bottom (honest) and past fields with pheasants, cows, or horses. That takes us up to the Upperthong Village Hall, then down through the village. It's mostly residential, with a pub of course. Just a few interconnected lanes, but beautiful.

Right in the center of the village. The pets in the back garden.

And, as we walk through the village and back to Victoria Square or to Springfield House, we pass Saint John's church, where Bill Owen is burried - Last of the Summer Wine's Compo.

The grave is at the end of the path, to its left.

And then we finish our circle. It's about 2-3 miles, depending on which way we go and how many lanes we explore. Before breakfast, after dinner, or just to relax. Beautiful.
