Ponden Hall (Thrushcroft Grange)

OK, I'm mostly into the Heathcliff stuff in Wuthering Heights. But we've done the Top Withens walk a gazillion times. And we're getting, along with adventurous, old. So we decided to head for the setting for Thrushcroft Grange, where Cathy became sort of civilized. Thought we'd be more civilized, too.

This time, we took a different angle across Penistone Moor. Which didn't bring us out as expected. but we made it onto the Duke of Devonshire's land anyhow. Well before the Bronte Bridge, we took a right down through fields and back up again.

Coming off Penistone Moor and looking down at Lower Thwaite Reservoir. We walked out and around to the left. Came back from the right and over the dam.

So much for civilized. We came down from that top stone wall, over the bridge, and up again.

But the old legs made it.

Once we climbed the steep sheep fields, we headed to Ponden, along a bit of the Pennine Way. How did Emily get out here? I hope with a horse.

Heading towards Ponden Reservoir. With Ponden up (of course) on the left.

Swaldales above the reservoir as we head up.

Thrushcroft Grange - Ponden Hall. Yes it is too civilized. I like wind-blown and bleak.

Then back along a lower road, through Ponden Mill, to Stanbury. And, of course, The Old Silent.

And then through Stanbury, across the Lower Laithe Reservoir dam, and back on Cemetery Road (the new Cemetery, not the one in the village) to Haworth.

Probably not as long or as strenuous a walk as Top Withens. But at least 6 miles with some impressive climbing. And it really is nice to try something new.
