This compact Northern California wilderness area is strikingly similar to the Eagle Cap Wilderness in Northeast Oregon. (Here are other web pages of these spectacular areas.) Granite peaks and other geological features almost render these two wilderness enclaves as mirror images of each other.

 On the Trail In

Hiking south along the Tri Forest Trail from Big Flat trailhead, then turning east onto the Ward Lake Trail about 3 miles in. The hike to the lake is another 2 or 3 miles.

Hiking cross-country in the Kidd Creek canyon.

Ward Lake Campsite

Our campsite is on the other side of the lake as we approach it from the north.

Lily pads dot the south shore of the lake.

Looking east toward the outlet from lake level.

This tree anchors our campsite!.

View from my sleeping spot; evening sun highlights Snowslide Peak.

Shooting Stars share the bog with the sun flowers.

These dainty beauties were also in profuse bloom.
