Nicky at 4 Years Old!
(March 7, 2009)

Nicky did a very nice job one week after his 4th birthday
at the Puget Sound K9 UKC Obedience show.
Saturday he won his UKC CD Title and 2nd place,
missing 1st by only 1/2 point. He had good attention,
except for the first halt. That cost us!

Nicky's heeling position

October 10 & 11, 2009 Wow! Big Nicky in the Collie obedience shows. What a sight! He did great heeling work both days. Broad jump presented a question for him but we'll fix that quickly. Fantastic attention! I'm so proud!
June 5, 2009
Nicky won his CD Title and two 1st places this week at the Evergreen Sheltie Club shows! He did very nice work! Thursday it was 88 degrees in the building. At least it cooled off a bit Friday. I'm so proud of him!
March 29. 2009
Nicky and I had a nice run at his AKC Obedience debut today at Argus Ranch. He won 1st place! However, there was an evil metal washer in the ground the judge used to mark the figure-8 posts. Nick was convinced it was going to get him! What a strange but good boy!
March 14, 2009
Nicky earned his UKC CD title today with a great showing! He earned 196 points and 2nd place. Nice attention!
November 2008
Nicky was quite the showman in Lynden at a Fun Match. His attention was stellar and several other handlers complimented us on our work stating I've got quite a dog there! Good boy!
June 2008
Nicky moved up to the advanced Utility group this month. It's a push, but just what we need. We missed his debut when I came down ill in April/May so we'll keep refining his skills!
March 2, 2007
Nicky earned his CGC title today! Canine Good Citizen. He had to pass 10 tests being a nice boy. No sweat!
August 3, 2006
Nicky's heeling is improving, he's moving along with his fetching/holding of the dumbbell, and his recalls are fast and fantastic! He loves going to school and working as a team. What a guy!
February 11, 2006
Nicky was invited to an Obedience Seminar by Laurie to be a "puppy-in-training" demo dog. He had to work a lot since he was the only puppy, but he did a fantactic job and didn't shut down - even after 2 full days of working!
December 23, 2005
Nicky is doing great in his obedience training. He learned the off-side jump so fast that now he's learning the broad jump! Walking with the dumbbell in his mouth has left him awkward, but he'll get it soon. I hope. We have a long way to go, but he is making nice progress and loves doing it!
September 7 , 2005
Nicky goes through phases of wonderful heeling and then geeky movements. I guess at only 6 months of age with his legs and back getting longer, that is to be expected. Nicky is learning to hold his new dumbbell by watching Minet get rewarded for a good Hold. She's such a good teacher!
August 23, 2005
Nicky's heeling is finally coming along now that I quit feeding him the entire time. He's learning circles left and right, keeping a great heel position. We just started our "Stand Back" command. He understood it the first time we worked it! Next week we are moving into the next level of class, and he's only 5 1/2 months old! Maybe we'll start our "Open" level training soon, too.
July 25, 2005
Nicky loves obedience! He's a little show-off. He is fitting in well with the older dogs and is learning quickly. His awkward proportions are creating a challenge with good, straight heeling so we focus on our turns, sit & down signals and working in the boards. His attention (Yes) is really coming along, too!
July 1, 2005
Nicky joined a real-dog obedience class 2 weeks ago and is learning so much so fast! He loves to walk backwards, is learning the ever-important "Wait" and is working in the boards to insure wonderfully straight heeling position. He was a hit at Don's office for his surprise visit yesterday!
June 3, 2005
We crashed a puppy class so Nicky could be around other dogs and small children. He was a hit with little Rachel! We're now working on sit & down signals.
May 29, 2005
Nicky "wows" the neighbors as he shows off his new skills. His "spin" is getting faster, his "latte" is nearly perfect, and he even tapped on the sliding glass door when he needed to go "quickly" this morning! What a smart boy!
May 22, 2005
We've had 2 puppy classes now, and Nicky is doing great! He's learning "spin" and "right". He's working in the 4"x4" boards and loves them. Today we went for our first walk with Minet - both dogs on flexi's. It was fun as he followed her lead!
May 12, 2005
We're going to start working with Laurie and other puppy trainers to get started on the formal basics for both Obedience & Agility. These skills will prove valuable in both arenas.
May 10,2005
Nicky is learning his "Latte" command! He watches Minet sit or down while I make my morning latte and copies her actions. He gets a Cheerio or two for his efforts. He has also learned that sitting and looking up at me often gets him a tiny cookie. When in doubt, look cute! Works for me.
May 9, 2005
Nicky had a hyper day! (2 months old) I'm exhausted. He raced around the house, attacking anything and everything. Not even Minet was safe! She headed upstairs for a little solitude. Finally, I put him in his crate and he zonked out. Perhaps a little over stimulated?
Baby Steps: Nicky is learning basic home, obedience and agility terms. He is a natural and his vocabulary is getting bigger every day! "Quickly!" "Come here!" "Sit" "Down" "Get it!" "Spin!"

June 7, 2009
Nicky earned his NADAC Jumpers title today! NJC Way to go!
November 28, 2008
Nicky ran in a NADAC trail today to practice start lines and contacts. He did every single contact and waited for my release! Start lines were a little shakey, but he held all three of them! He even earned his Novice Regular title!
November 9, 2008
Nicky had a great Exc B Jumpers run at Sno-King today! He took all my cues and even let me stretch our skills a bit. I bled off the weave poles approximately 12 feet to get into position for the next 3 jumps and he stayed to finish his job! Good boy! His time was only 1.5 seconds behind 1st place! He is in the cream-of-the-crop of the 20" dogs!
September, 1, 2008
Nicky earned his Excellent Jumpers title today! His run was described as "a ballet-like experience to watch." Smooth and effortless! Now he can start accumulating MACH points in Jumpers!
June 22, 2008
Nicky earned his Open Standard title today! He was fantastic and is settling down a bit. Watch his run here!
June 21, 2008
Nicky now has 2 Excellent Jumpers legs, both 1st places, and he continues to beat the clock by a long shot! He loves this agility stuff! Standard legs don't come as easily.
March 2008

Check out Nicky's video of the 2008 Evergreen Shetland Sheepdog Club's agility trial. He won 1st place in ExcA Jumpers and 1st place in Open Standard. Had a wild crash in his other Open run. He's a wild boy! Click HERE for video

November 4, 2007
Nicky earned his Open Agility title today at the Labrador Retriever Trail. He also won 1st place!
April 29, 2007
Nicky earned his Novice Agility Title today at the Poodle Club Trial. While we had troubles with weave entries, he made up for the time in his jumping ability!
April 3, 2007
Nicky made his agility debut at the Sheltie Nationals in Oregon and won 2nd place in both Jumpers and Standard! He was faster than the first place dog, but he wasted time returning to me after minor errors at the weave poles. He sure had fun though!
March 5, 2007
Mary was so impressed with Nicky's agility skills, particularly his 12 weave poles, that she invited him to join the Elite/Excellent level agility class! That's the level Minet trains at! What a talented boy! He has a slammin' teeter, too!
August 3, 2006

Nicky is taking private lessons from Mary G, a National Agility Champion. It's been wonderful for her to see how far we've come in his first year. My summer goals have been to get the weave poles and our contacts solid. Both are coming along beautifully!
Mary is impressed with how well he follows my body cues. I am throwing Excellent level drills on him and he does them with enthusiasm! He's a hotdog!

February 6, 2006
Nicky charges the A-frame with a No-Fear attitude! Today we put hoops at both ends and let him go for it. He soared over the peak like a pro! What a speed demon!
December 23 , 2005
Nicky is learning to jump a 270 degree jump pattern! I'm so impressed with him. He loves agility so much that my biggest challenge is looking to be giving him the information early enough because he's off and running!
September 7 , 2005
He's a hotdog! Nicky's eager approach to agility has him running considerable sequences. Tunnel entries are hot from any angle. He even took the 12 weave poles before I could get the wires on! He loves this stuff!
August 23, 2005
Nicky's weave entries are hot! From strong angles, he zooms to locate the entrance and then races all the way to the end! Tunnels shake, rattle and roll when he goes through! We're working on speed over the dogwalk using hoops at either end. The word "Go!" is his favorite. Sequencing of obstacles doesn't phase him. Last week he practically begged me to add a sit on the table after our jump, tunnel, jump sequence. Guess he figured there was more running and more cookies in it for him!
July 25, 2005
Nicky started in his first official Beginning Agility class today. I was amazed how much he has already learned, watching the others start from the first steps. We worked on weave pole entries, tunnel entries,"Go" to the plates, and started learning the word jump. I'm so proud of him!
June 1, 2005
We're working on Nicky's "Go" command with plates and cookies. As you might guess, he loves the cookie thing! This will get me away from always being the source of treats so Nicky will work away from me. At least, that's the plan!
May 27, 2005
The tunnel is Nicky's new favorite agility item! He doesn't even care if it's straight or bent. He continues to love the contact obstacles as well. He's learning to smack down the teeter to build speed and confidence. Like he needs more of either!
May 22, 2005
Nicky, at nearly 10 weeks of age, was introduced to the puppy-height agility equipment at Canine College today. He loved the teeter, dog walk and A-frame so much I could hardly keep him off! His confidence is wonderful. The tunnel was tough without a training buddy to hold him, but he did go through several times and had a really good time. He's going to be a happy agility athlete!
Baby Steps: Nicky is starting by walking on a plank, then experiencing the teeter effect when I put a 2" X 4" board underneath. It's a new world of fun! Soon we'll go to Canine College and run through the tunnels!
