Three Interactive Web Tools That Can Help You Choose a Drug Plan (November 2007)

Medicare Drug Plan Finder: Created by the government entity that administers Medicare, this tool asks you to punch in your ZIP code and the drugs you need, then produces a detailed breakdown of monthly and annual costs for an array of plans. This tool is the best impartial source of information about your options. Still, it's a good idea to call and confirm the data with the company itself once you've settled on a plan that you like.

Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Guide: The trade group of the health insurance industry, America's Health Insurance Plans, has published an interactive workbook with the aim of prepping you to use the Medicare Plan Finder Tool. The AHIP guide will walk you through the basics for both stand-alone and Medicare Advantage Plans and features case studies and a printable survey that will help you gauge your preferences.

Medical Interactive Counselor: Looking for a basic, easy-to-understand explanation of the morass that is health insurance? This tool, created by a not-for-profit consumer advocacy group critical of the privatization of Medicare, will walk you through all the basics of how the system works, how you can pick out a plan, and how to appeal if your coverage is denied.

www.GovBenefits.gov - GovBenefits.gov helps citizens access government benefit eligibility information through a free, confidential, and easy-to-use online screening tool. After answering some basic questions, the user receives a customized report listing the benefit programs for which the user, or person for whom he or she is entering information, may be eligible.

www.BenefitsCheckup.org - BenefitsCheckUp helps thousands of people every day to connect to government programs that can help them pay for prescription drugs, health care, utilities, and other needs.  Please use our short questionnaires to find programs that can assist you or your loved ones. If you have Medicare, we recommend you start with the new BenefitsCheckUpRx.

Wisc Prescription Drug Resource Center - Just across the border and in many other countries citizens can walk into their corner drugstore and buy the same safe prescriptions we have here, but at a fraction of the price. But too many citizens of this country are forced to make unbearable choices between food and medicine. If the federal government isn’t willing to take on the drug companies and fight for more affordable prices, states like Wisconsin will have to lead the way.

This website gives our citizens the ability to buy certain prescriptions at significantly lower prices from pharmacies that have been visited and found to be safe, reputable, and reliable by inspection on behalf of several state governors. It also provides information about SeniorCare, the new Medicare drug benefit, and other programs that may be an option for you.

The goal is to let consumers make an informed choice among all of the available options - including local pharmacies, lower price generics available domestically, safe Canadian pharmacies, and through a pharmacy benefit manager who will find the lowest price from several countries.

Thanks for visiting this website. I hope you find it useful.
