Musical Meeting of the Minds
Hi

I called my daughter's orchestra instructor to find out why they were not having a Christmas Program.  The conversation had gone so well that we agreed to work together starting in January since I am a strings person and she is not.  That works out for all involved to help this year along and it will set things up for next year.

American and International Releases
Hi

Can anyone tell me why on Earth there are American and International releases of the same CD?  Why do they differ?  What is the reasoning behind this?

A and Opera
I gave my daughter A her first opera CD.  Now, remember this, I do not particularly care for female opera singers;  however she has the range and strength to become a great singer and opera is within her reach.  She is 10 and loves to sing and has perfect pitch.  I have never met any muscian with the pitch she has.  Her cd is entitled Bel Canto by Kathleen Battle.  So I guess I have gone out of my way to listen to music I do not care for.

Christmas Carols
Well, here it is...it is Thanksgiving Day and the retailers and radio stations are playing a steady diet of Chrsitmas music for us consumers/listeners.  Church musicians get a third whammy, we have been rehearsing Christmas music for a month now.  What is a musician, choir director, choir member or music teacher to do?  So I do not get sick of Christmas, I avoid listening to that music at home and in the car.  I have been listening to jazz cds.  Infact, it has been quite a surprise rediscovering an old friend and discovering some new ones.

Teaching Teens at Level One
Hi

I was curious if any other music teachers approach teaching teens who are just starting out on an instrument any differently from that of a younger child, let us say 7 or so?  If so, how?  If no, why not?  I do teach students from 12 on up a lot differently.  We must remember despite their maturity level, their intellect is one of a very young adult withou the formal schooling one needs once you are out there in the way.  So, I teach them accordingly so that I may assist in their development.
