According to his marriage certificate (PRDH) his origin was paroisse de monin, eveche de valence en vivarret.

Was a native of St.-Denis-le-Petit-Bourg, Diocese of Rouen, in Normandy.
Captured by the Iroquois in the autumn of 1654 and was returned to Montreal the next summer by a Mohawk captain named La Grande Armee. MIchel and the rest of the French prisoners the Mohawks heldwere exchanged for some Iroquois captainsheld in teh fort at Ville Marie.
On November 4, 1657, Michel boughta 30 acre parcel of land known as La Provencale from Charles LaMoyne, his future brother in law, for 900 livres.
Name first appears in the "Annals of Ville-Marie" in August 12, 1661 when on March 24. 1661,, Messier was captured by the Iroquois. On June 22, some Iroquois at Montreal claimed that he had been burned by the Onondagas and they weren't sure if he was alive or not. Michel escaped in and returned to Montreal at the end of 1663. On his daugther Jeanne's birth record it says Michel was taken by the Iroquios on 3/24/1662.
He's on the 1666 Montreal census. The 1681 census finds the family at Varennes on Michel's seigneurie of Cap-Saint-Michel.
The marriage contract to Ann Lamoine was drawn up on 2/18/1658 by Notary Basset.
Michel and Jacques Lemoine, Sieur de Martigny, (Anne's brother) were jointly granted a seigneurie at Varennes on May 14,1668 (ratified by Intendant Talon 11/3/1672), which they split on 8/1/1673 (ratified by Intendant Duchesneau 8/3/1676). Michel kept the part known as Cap Saint Michel and Lemoine kept Cap de la Trinite. On 10/4/1678, Michel bought the seigneurie of La Guillaudiere from Laurent Bory, which he gave to his daughter Marguerite in 1690. In 1684, Michel took part in the compaign agianst the Iroquois, led by Lefebvre de La Barre. At the military review at Fort Frontenac kon 8/14/1684, he is listed as commander of the launch La Generale. He obtained fur trading licenses for the Ottawa territory in 1685, 1688 and 1693 and wroked as a recruiter of fur traders in 1703-1704.
The notaryTailhandier drew up an inventory of his estate on 1/4/1626.
