Arrived in Quebec as a soldier about 1637, when Maisonneuve arrived in Quebec City in the fall of 1641, he signed up for engagement as a stone-cutter. The surname Jolicoeur was common for soldiers popular with the ladies, and LaPoussiere (Dusty) was given to him for his trade.

On 1666 Montreal Census
Marriage contract was drawn up on October 6, 1659 bu notary Basset in the home of Jean Gervais.
In 1653, he lived in the town of Parce near La Fleche, Anjou. Jean enlisted to go to Canada on April 24, 1653. His contract was drawn up in La Fleche by notary, Lafousse and promised 60 livres a year as a plowman. Before departure, Louis recieved advanced wages of 74 livres in a contract drawn up by notary Gelliotte on June 20,1653. He arrived in Montreal on November 16, 1653 aboard the Saint Nicolas with the Grande Recrue and was given a land grant at the end of his three year enlistment, on December 10, 1656. On 1663, Louis was a member of the 19th squadron of Montreal's Saint Famille militia.

Arrived in Montreal on September 29, 1659 aboard the Saint Andre, one of the girls sent by Monsieur de La Dauversiere "for the habitation" of Ville Marie. Part of the Filles a Maurier.
The fact that the marriage contract was signed in Jean Gervais' home seems to indicate that Elizabeth lodged with him prior to her marriage.
