Came to New France with his father in 1635. They settled in Quebec and Pierre was taught by Jesuits. In 1637, he went to Huronia as a lay assistant to the missionaries. He was there almost 4 years, where he learned the Hurons' language and observed their customs. After returning, he served as a soldier, interpreter and Indian agent. While in Trois-Rivieres, he married a Christian Huron woman, Marie Oueadoukoue who died in the year from complications from childbirth. In 1653, he led the defense of Trois-Rivieres against 600 Iroquois. For this, he was appointed govenor of Trois-Rivieres. The French king conferred letters of nobility on him in 1661. He established Boucherville. For more see p.43-47 in "Captors and Captives: the 1794 French and Indian raid on Deerfield"
