Hendirck was born about 1661in "Flat Bush in the Dutch colony of New Netherlands. Flat Bush was on the western end of Long Island and was one of the" Beach towns "which were eventually to become Brooklyh. Shortly after Hendrick 's birth the English took over New Netherland in 1664, and it became New York permanently after another English-English conflict in 1674.
