This scholarship supersedes any prior scholarship
of this organization.
I.
Intent and Purposes:
It is the intention of the Randolph
Township Volunteer Fire Department To establish at least one annual, one-year scholarship of not less than $1,000.00, to be
awarded to the recipient in two payments of not less than $500.00 each. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote and assist
worthy students. The payments shall be paid as follows: 1st payment at the beginning of 1st semester
or quarter-2nd payment at the beginning of 2nd semester of quarter.
II.
Eligibility of Applications:
To be eligible to receive the scholarship
award, the recipient must be a high school graduate or in the final semester of his or her high school curriculum. He or she
must have attended Heyworth
School District #4 at least the past three consecutive semesters and have been
accepted by an institute of higher learning. Having fulfilled the above requirements, the applicant must submit a letter of
intent and application to either the school guidance counselor in which he or she is attending or the secretary of the Randolph
Township Fire Protection District by June 13.
III. Screening of Applications:
All letters of application will be
turned in to a committee at the school the applicant attends. This committee will be chosen by the school administration of
their discretion. The committee’s duties will be to review the applications, making sure that each applicant has met
the above eligibility in paragraph II above, and make recommendations according to scholastic ability and need. The school
will provide confidential records required by the awarding committee. The qualifications are in the order:
50% Need
25% Scholastic
25% Good Citizenship
Children of Fire Department members
have preferences if they meet present qualifications.
IV. Duties of the Recipient:
Upon designation of a final recipient
by the awarding committee as outlined in paragraph a VI and upon presentation of acceptable proof of enrollment of the fire
department secretary, for each of the first semester of quarter and the second semester or quarter, the scholarship fund will
present to the recipient a check for the respective semester or quarter.
V.
Institute of Higher Learning:
An institute of higher learning
shall constitute a University, Junior College, School of Nursing,
or Trade School. In no way shall salaried, on-the-job training programs be construed to fit within the scope of this scholarship
fund.
VI. Awarding Committee:
It shall be the duty of the Randolph
Township Fire Protection District Chief and the Fire Department secretary to assemble each year an awarding committee. This
committee shall consist of three citizens of the fire district. This committee shall not be permanent body but shall be chosen
annually. No member of any school district shall be a member of this committee. It shall be the duty of this committee to
select a recipient, or two recipients from all the applications on the basis of the qualifications listed above, without regard
to race, creed, sex, or religion.
VII. Portions of scholarships:
Anytime an unused portion of a scholarship
becomes available due to failure to meet requirements as established above or other reasons; the unused portion shall remit
back to the scholarship fund.
