Relatives Who Served
in the Civil War

Of the men listed below, many were related to Jordan Smith or his family, including:

Brothers James, John, David & Moses Emery. James' daughter, Mary Elizabeth married Nathaniel Hull Pirtle. Their daughter Emma Caroline Pirtle married Albert "Ross" Smith, Jordan's grandson.
Henry Emery may be an older brother to the Emery's listed above, although the 1870 Census lists a Henry Embry, born in about 1840 in England and living in 1870 Jackson County, IL. Our Henry was born in 1831 in North Carolina.
The Emery's oldest brother, William, remained in North Carolina when the rest of the family moved west. He may have served in the Confederate Army.
All of the Lingle's are probably related to Jordan's first wife, Mary Lingle. However, there is no documentation of her parents in order to prove this.
William Martin is probably the husband of Elizabeth Emery, the Emery brother's sister.
Calvin Carter's second wife was Emma Louisa Norton. Her first husband was James Emery from above.
