If you are a successful executive you succeed because you get good work from
your employees. You manage well. You set positive expectations. You reward
effective performance. You relate well to colleagues and employees. To say it
in other words, you make effective choices both in your work life and in your
personal life; at key points you STOP, THINK, and CHOOSE in effective ways.
Although you may be successful, chances are you can improve your
moment-to-moment communications and your choice-making skills, and this is
especially true if you sense that all is not going as well as you wish.
The truth is you and I, all of us, have developed our communication and
choice-making skills rather like Topsy: They just grew. They emerged from trial
and error and as a result of reinforcement and rejection along the way.
Certainly, training has had its influence, but that training has probably focused
on management theories and issues rather than your moment-to-moment
communication with others.
ON THE CREST: Growing
through effective choices is designed to help you look at the kinds of
choices you make and consider how you might improve your choice-making skills.
This light-hearted paperback based on the Choice Awareness system is an
easy read that is loaded with concepts and ideas designed to help you explore
the ways in which you make your choices, and expand the range of choices
available to you -- within the workplace and beyond.
You can read ON THE CREST
on your own, or explore it with colleagues or employees in a group. Detailed
guidelines for ON-THE-CREST
Groups are presented in the book, and 12 of the 31 chapters can be read on this
web page.
The List of Publications
offers links to 8 other books that could be of relevance for the employer or
employee -- including two for elementary- and two for middle-school-aged kids.
If your kids are "driving you crazy" because of the choices they make
it would probably be most useful to look first at your own choices, but another
line of action would be to explore with them the kinds of choices both you and
they are making, using ON THE CREST as a vehicle.
