Adjust Preferences & Virutal Memory


By clicking Adjust Preferences & Virutal Memory you will accomplish the following steps:

  • Click Start button
  • Right Click My Computer
  • Left Click Properties
  • Left Click Advanced system settings link on left side pane
  • Click Settings button in the Performance section
  • Now disable all unnecessary options in Visual Effects tab. You can keep the following options enabled:
    • Enable desktop composition
    • Enable transparent glass
    • Show preview and filters in folder
    • Show thumbnails instead of icons
    • Show window contents while dragging
    • Smooth edges of screen fonts
    • Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop
    • Use visual styles on windows and buttons
  • Click Apply


  • Click the Advanced tab within the Performance section
  • Click Virtual Memory button
  • Click Change button
  • Uncheck "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives"
  • Place a dot next to Custom size
  • Set this to 1.5 times the amount of actual RAM that is in the computer (with a minimum value of 1024)
  • Click OK
  • Click OK
  • Click Apply
  • Click OK
  • Click OK
  • Click Restart later
