His maternal grandfather, Walter Taylor called him Jack and that is how everyone knew him.
Jack would often talk about taking the buggy when growing up from the ranch into San Jose.
Jack had saved his money for College but because of the depression all his money was in the bank and he could not get it. So he joined the Merchant Marine. He traveled all around the world including Hawaii and Australia. He told a story about crossing the Columbia River Bar with a cargo of logs that had broken loose and had to be tied down in terrible conditions before the loose logs could sink the ship.
Later he did attend San Jose State where he was on the track team and a member of a Fraternity. He told a story about his initiation and how since he ran home some number of miles he was able to sit the next day.
Jack last worked in Real Estate as a broker where he had his own firm and served as the President of the Real Estate Board in San Jose for a number of years.

California death certificate shows year of birth as 1889 and month of death as Apr.
Carraher genealogy pages shows year of birth as 1885 and month of death as June.
The 1889 date would put her too close to Viola so I am using 1885.
