Comments: Portland's famous open sightseeing car
left three times a day from 2nd & Washington downtown for a 2 1/2 hour
trip that cost 50 cents. The 1912 brochure "How to See Portland by
Trolley" describes points of interest visited, including Downtown, the
East Side, Steel Bridge, Hotel and Theatre District, Nob Hill residences
(NW Portland), World Forestry Building and Willamette Heights.
The car's weight and extra motors apparently encouraged the company
to retain it for several years after revenue service as a snow removal
car!
Retirement: 1938 (as passenger car) 1943 (work car).
Technical Notes: Two 8' steel snow scrappers added 1929. |
