Vintage Trolley Has
Ceased Operation |
Vintage
Trolley, Inc. has ceased operation and the
two VT trolleys owned by TriMet, No.'s 511
and 512, were sent to Saint Louis,
Missouri in September 2014 for use on a
planned "Loop Trolley" streetcar
line. Portland Vintage Trolley
service originally ceased in December
2013, but when the transfer of these two
cars to St. Louis was delayed, two more
dates of operation were scheduled.
The final two runs took place on May 25
and July 6, 2014 using car No. 511. After
almost 23 years of operation (Nov. 29,
1991 to July 6, 2014), the colorful
Council Crest car reproductions will no
longer share tracks with MAX through
downtown Portland. The good news is that
Vintage Trolley's two other cars, No.'s
513 and 514, have been transferred to the
Willamette Shore Trolley for use on the
historic Portland-Lake Oswego "Shore
Line." The first of these, car 514, was
moved to the carbarn in Lake Oswego in
2013, and after having been repainted and
tested it entered service there on August
16, 2014. The Willamette Shore
Trolley continues to be operated by
volunteers from the Oregon Electric
Railway Historical Society, who have been
the line's operator since 1995. See
the WST link on the Vintage Trolley home
page for more information. |
