My name is Adrianna Droz of Edmonds, WA. I have exciting news! I have been selected through a national tryout to play my trumpet with the National Wind Ensemble in May 2007. This is a New York City residency with 61 selected musicians from around the country coming together to play. We will practice together and learn five pieces of music in four days. On the last day the National Wind Ensemble will hold a public performance in Carnegie Hall. I am really excited for this educational opportunity and to be able to play with the best of the best in of all places, Carnegie Hall! To hold my spot on the National Wind Ensemble I need to have a minimum of $5,500. This amount includes the production company fees, hotel, chaperone fees, airfare, and an estimate for meals, taxis and such. I have a part time job but I can't legally work enough hours to reach that amount by the deadline. I will also be playing Christmas music for pay with two of my friends starting the first weekend in Dec and I have started teaching trumpet lessons after school before I go to work. I am in the process of looking for assistance and sponsorships. Your help and sponsorship will be greatly appreciated
The day after I received the email announcing my acceptance into the National Wind Ensemble, I received another email. This second email stated that I had received numerous nominations and was selected over others world wide, for the 2007 International Trumpet Guild Young Artist Award. My photo and bio will be in the March issue of the International Trumpet Guild Magazine. I am told by my private instructor that this is a huge honor and for a young person to receive it, is even a bigger deal. Just recently I was notified that I had been selected to participate in All State Band. Judges from Washington Music Educators Association made the selections. I have been playing the trumpet for going on seven years, from elementary school through high school. I have been taking private lessons for going on five years as I enjoy playing the trumpet so much. At Kamiak High School in Mukilteo, I play in the Wind Ensemble, in our 200 member Competitive Show Band, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra and Brass Ensembles. Outside of the school setting I play in community bands, perform solos at local schools for Veterans Day playing our national anthem, other public solo performances, also part of a trio that performs at retirement centers, and a member of youth and adult jazz bands. A packet of information was sent to me from the National Wind Ensemble with an acceptance letter and a video tape about Carnegie Hall. On the enclosed video tape, many well known professionals who have performed at Carnegie Hall were interviewed. This will give you an idea of the journey I am going to take, “A once in a lifetime experience to play at Carnegie Hall”. Ray Charles said, “It was like arriving, you've gotten there.” “You don't get into Carnegie Hall, unless you are something! or somebody.” Garson Kanin, author and student stated of conductor Arturo Toscanini, “As students at Carnegie Hall, we saw the greatest conductor in all history, of NY Philharmonic, at work in practices.” “It gave me the notion how difficult it was to achieve excellence.” Jazz trumpet professional Wynton Marsalis said, “Each generation tries to make the generation before them proud.” “In that respect you always are aware who you are representing and who your elders are.” Leontype Price said, “I like to think that being in Carnegie Hall, one is also hopefully at your best, but you are on the stage of a monument, a true American monument that is America at its best.” I am seeking out personal sponsors to assist me in this educational opportunity and to be able to perform at the world famous Carnegie Hall with some of the best musicians in the country. Any amount is greatly appreciated. My parents pay thousands of dollars each year to cover my costs to participate in music. Plus the added expenses of school Wind Ensemble, Show Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Full Orchestra, which includes travel costs to competitions locally and to OR and Univ. of ID. I also have expenses playing with outside music and educational groups such as the Everett Youth Jazz over the summer. My parents, Eric and Shelley Droz also pay for my music education with my jazz instructor and concert instructor and pianists who accompany me for solo competitions. Last June my parents purchased a professional trumpet for me after a college professor who was adjudicating solo competition said, “I was playing beyond the capacity of the horn I had”. I now play on a professional model, Bach Stradivarius, designed from the trumpet models made by Bach in the 1930’s. Last December my school Show Band went to Paris, I did not go as I wanted a new horn and we felt that purchasing a new horn was a better use of money and would further my music education more. The trumpet will always be a part of my life in my future education. To hold my spot on the National Wind Ensemble to play at Carnegie Hall I need to raise a minimum $5,500. It was to be paid by the end of December but we just recieved a payment extention through March. I am asking for your sponsorship help. It would be greatly appreciated. If you know of any friends or businesses who would like to sponsor me, please contact me so I can send them a personal letter. Your help is appreciated!
