This section discusses changing
map terrain. That is, changing the textures of a map. Below you can find info
on how to change the up and downs of a map. Okay, number one. Find the map that
you want to change the way it looks, let's use France-converted to Selalonia
for the example today. The textures for maps are in the Toolkit/Graphics/Other
art section, go to FRA.PIC to see the first one. The first ones, FRA.PIC are
always the picture you see in the create pro mission screen, or briefing map
screen. You can change that if you need to. I never bothered to, after all Egypt
overall the shape is good enough, Selalonia looks like France, Remis looks like
Panama. However, the map made by Wedge for Israel, the Midwest, Arizona, and
the Falkland Islands all looked different in the pro mission screen, ... Okay,
you can start opening the other ones. You'll see a lot of pink stuff with some
white stuff. The pink stuff is land, white stuff is water, k? Now, you'll start
seeing a lot of coastline, coastline cities. (Change palette to internal to
see details) You'l also see some coastline cities. Oh yeah, here's one thing.
You'll generally to stuff numbered FRA45.PIC or FRA23.PIC, right? Well, the
ones labeled FRA2.PIC or FRA3.PIC are the cities, always. Anyway, it's pretty
much explained, you can even use photographs to cover over the original pics,
as long as they are 256 by 256. That's easily modifiable. Also, when doing coastlines
it is best to open up whatever you're painting first in the internal palette
to see what it looks like, rename it, and paint it as default. That way you
can get a good idea of how the coastline should look when you paint it yourself.
