AT THE MERCY OF THE HABAGAT WINDS
Year after year the Habagat winds pound the shores of Boracay. The fury of the
winds is manifested by the erosion of the sand along the stretch of the western
beach and is now exposing the roots of the coconut trees. Over time the beachwalk
corridor will be slowly consumed by the combined forces of the wind and the waves
thus pushing redevelopment farther inland.
There is a positive outlook from having the eroded sand being carried further out
to sea. When the winds have subsided in the summer time, a wider beach area will
be exposed and will provide substantial amount of room for various activities.
On the other side of the island is Boracay Newcoast. There, waiting for summer is
not necessary as it is pleasant on the eastern side all year round. Being on the
calmer side, one can focus on just having fun!
