Georgia - Brasstown Bald - 4784 Feet - June 26, 2003

Wednesday, June 25, 2003 - We left Sassafras Mountain, drove back to SC178 and then north about 15 miles to Rosman, NC. We had some great pizza at "Becky's". Their pizza with everything had a lot of everything. It was just what we needed after a long hike. We then headed west on 64 about 5 miles to Headwater's Outfitters to return their lock that they had put on our kayaks while we hiked. From there, we drove about 10 miles west on 64 and turned south on 281 toward Whitewater Falls. After about 10 miles we turned right on SC413 and drove about 2 miles to SC107. We turned left on 107 and drove about 10 miles. The directions get a little shaky here. After passing Oconee State Park and the junction with SC28, we turned right after the boiled peanut stand. After about 5 miles, we turned left at a stop sign (going straight goes to Earl's Ford on the Chattooga). After about another 5 miles we came to US76 where we turned right and drove west about 50 miles to Hiawassee, GA. We got a room at the Holiday Inn Express and much needed baths. The next morning we backtracked about a mile on 76 to 75 where we turned south and drove about 8 miles to a right turn on 180. After about 7 miles we came to Brasstown Bald. There was a nice visitors center with a movie.
