Louisiana - Driskill Mountain - 534 Feet- June 19, 2008
Tuesday, June 17, 2008 - It was a six hour drive to New Orleans. It was interesting driving over Lake Pontchartrain on I-10.
Parts were temporary. A new bridge is being built next to the old one. It's a major undertaking. We stayed at LeRichelieu Hotel.
It was the only one I could find in the French Quarter with free parking. Every other hotel charged $25 or $30 to park. We walked
down Bourbon Street and found a restaurant, La Bayou. There was an alligator over the bar. I had a crawfish poboy and Angie had
noodles. We walked as far as the Superdome.

Wednesday, June 18, 2008 - This was a busy day. We walked a lot. We went to Jackson Square, the Lousiana State Museum (Cibaldo),
Riverwalk, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and all over the French Quarter. We took the Canal Street Ferry across the
Mississippi River and back. It's free. People in New Orleans were friendly. They would say "Good Morning" in passing. While
I was waiting for a coffee shop to open, a policeman talked to me for a while. He said the old I-10 bridge will eventually be sunk
to create an artificial reef for fish.

Thursday, June 19, 2008 - We drove to Driskill Mountain. The 0.7 mile trail was well marked. There is a short side trail to a great
view of Jordan Mountain. We drove about 1/2 hour further south to Cloud Crossing CG. It is on National Forest land. It was free
but there were no showers. It is surrounded by tree farms. Tree harvesting began early, around 6 am.
