Pennsylvania - Mount Davis - 3213 Feet - August 8, 2001

Monday, August 6, 2001 -We drove to Tub Run Campground on Youghiogheny Lake near Confluence, PA.

Tuesday, August 7, 2001 - We kayaked the middle Youghiogheny (Yough) (class I) from Confluence to Ohiopyle. We ran a bicycle shuttle before paddling. The bike trail runs along the river and is part of the Allegheny Trail. This trail runs from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC. Someone moved our bikes from the island in the parking lot at the Confluence put-in to beside the concession stand. Just a little scare there.

Wednesday, August 8, 2001 - We biked from Confluence to the Pinkerton Bridge and back. This is also on the Allegheny Trail. This is a very scenic section. The trail crosses the Casselman River three times on old railroad bridges. The Pinkerton Bridge is high above the river. It is just past Fort Hill. We finished early and decided to drive to Mount Davis. We drove about 5 miles southwest on 523 from Confluence to Listonburg. We turned left on SR2004 at Listonburg and drove about ten miles past High Point Lake to the access road on the right. We could hear thunder from an approaching thunderstorm. Angie and I made a foolhardy trip to the top of the metal tower. The USGS marker is embedded in a large rock.
