Cache la Poudre River, CO

Friday, June 16, 2006 - We took about the same route west as last year; 70 to Indianapolis, up to 80 and across. The first night we camped at the Sleepy Hollow KOA near Des Moines. They had wireless internet and a pool.

Saturday, June 17, 2006 - We had a blow out one exit before Ogallala, Nebraska. We limped the van along on the spare and route 30 to Ogallala, where we found a farm supply store that sold us two tires. 25 miles further , we turned off on I76 and drove to Sterling, CO and picked up CO14. About halfway between Sterling and Ft. Collins, near Briggsdale, we camped at a BLM campground on the Pawnee National Grassland. There was a talk in the evening by a birder. He said all the trees at the campground had been planted and to migrating birds, it looked like an oasis.

Sunday, June 18, 2006 - We finished the drive to the Mountain View Campground at milepost 98 on the Poudre where we met Elliot Drysdale. We paddled the White Mile, Rustic Section, and Grandpa's Gorge, ending at the campground. Cathy Needham and Bill Miller arrived in the evening.

Monday, June 19, 2006 - We all paddled the Mishawaka and Pine View sections.

Tuesday, June 20, 2006 - Elliot and Bill fished. They both caught a trout and ate it. Cathy hiked with us to the top of the mountain by the campground.

Wednesday, June 21, 2006 - We paddled Grandpa's Gorge.

Thursday, June 22, 2006 - Elliot's future son-in-law joined us on the Mishawaka and Pine View sections. The river dropped through the week, starting at about 3 feet and ending at about 2.5 feet.
